The First Galactic War, the plot of the first Helldivers game, happenes in 2084. Many NPCs in Helldivers 2 say that it has been 100 years since the First Galactic War, so that is why the majority of players agreed on 2184 being the year of the Second Galactic War, the ongoing plot of Helldivers 2. So far, the devs haven’t given us an exact date.
Why That Exact Date?
Helldivers 2 is a satire of political themes and totalitarian regimes. Some keen-eyed and educated fans came to the conclusion that the year when the game is taking place is an homage to George Orwell’s famous book about government control: 1984. That is why the plot of HD1 is taking place in 2084, and HD2 is taking place in 2184.
