One of the best things about Helldivers 2 has to be its community. The players support each other through hardships, value sportsmanship, and still manage to keep that lovely note of humor through all of their communications. So, when one devoted teacher and Helldivers 2 player admitted to pulling rank in real life, the community was extremely supportive.
A Teacher Pulled Rank on a Disruptive Student
One Helldiver, B1g-Boss45, teaches Middle School band in real life. Obviously, teaching preteens requires a lot of patience since kids can be very, um, demanding at that age. So, establishing a connection and finding a common language can be quite useful.
The OP found out that one of their students had started playing Helldivers 2. This teacher made a game reference and showed off the Helldivers 2 pin on their lanyard. However, things got interesting the next day, when the Helldiver student was being disruptive in class.
The teacher stopped their lesson and asked the student if he played Helldivers 2, knowing well that he did, and asked him which rank he was. The student said he did and revealed he was level 18. The teacher responded: “Okay, well, I’m level 59 and therefore your superior officer. I will be contacting your democracy officer to settle this matter”.
Surprisingly, this worked like a charm, and the student calmed down and stopped disrupting the class. Now, this is a true example of the impact a game can have on our everyday lives. One player, Apprehensive-Net-22, noted: “That’s pretty cool man, you don’t always get the opportunity to see an immediate impact like that. I’m sure you’ve said hundreds of things to students that you may have thought wouldn’t make an impact, but it does. Nice work”.
Other players praised the teacher for connecting with their student. GigaTechnician said: “If I had a teacher do this while I was in school, they would’ve immediately been my favorite. You probably connected with him in a way that no other adult has before, and I’m sure while it was minor for you, they’ll remember it forever”.
Helldivers 2 Community Fully Supports the Teacher
Still, an obvious potential problem presented itself. Since the student was still new to the game, he was on the lower level. However, adults know how much more free time they had when they were kids, so this student could easily outrank the professor in a couple of weeks.
This is where the Helldivers 2 community showed its true colors. Dozens of devoted Helldivers who were very highly ranked invited the teacher to play with them on higher difficulties in order to progress faster than the student.
However, some Helldivers had advice in case the student managed to outrank the teacher. If that ever happened, Stingra87 suggested the teacher say: “Bold words for someone within 500kg Eagle Strike range” and throw a crumpled paper ball at the student. This is peak Helldivers 2 community advice if you ask us.
So, the next time you can’t reason with someone in the real world, ask them if they play Helldivers 2 and what their rank is. You might be able to solve the problem easily after that. At the very least, you’ll break the ice and spread some Manage Democracy. For Liberty and Super Earth.
