An exciting Major Order is in progress! Not only does it take the players all over the map, but they’ll get a new Stratagem (MD-8 Gas Mines) if they complete it. As exciting as that sounds, some Helldivers 2 players are fed up with the lack of new content and don’t find the Gas Mines motivating. However, other players would throw this MO just for the meme and giggles.
The New Major Order Might Bring Gas Mines
On December 5, the players received a new Major Order. They have 5 days to liberate three planets. As always, there are some lore reasons for how Joel chose the planets. An in-game briefing explained what was going on.
It stated: “Efforts to expand the arsenal of chemical deterrents have been interrupted by an uptick in colonial labor shrinkage. While investigations are underway, these unforecasted population reductions have caused a resource shortfall. Specifically, mass production of new MD-8 Gas Mines is currently bottlenecked by chlorine shortages. Military intervention is now required. The Ministry of Expansion has identified several planets as rich in easily accessible salt deposits, which can be mined rapidly for subsequent conversion to chlorine. The Helldivers are ordered to reclaim these planets from our enemies. If all planets can be secured within the specified timeframe, the MD-8 Gas Mines will be made available for immediate requisition in all Super Destroyers”.
Some players were very excited by the possibility of getting a new “toy”. Especially when they realized that if they got the Gas Mines, their chosen Stratagems could all be mines. One player, sorinxz, noted: “I feel like they made it just for that. Some random giggling guy drops with a full stratagem stack of mines”.
Helldivers 2 Players Want to Bring Back the Mines Meme
Unfortunately, it seems that the majority of Helldivers 2 players are quite peeved that Arrowhead offered them Gas Mines. AClassyPenguin noted: “I’m convinced they have mine Stratagems ready to go specifically to troll when the community starts begging for new content”.
In a typical Helldivers’ fashion, they dealt with it by deciding to revive a meme. If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember players intentionally failing Major Orders whenever the reward was AT Mines. This went on for months before Arrowhead finally managed to give the AT Mines to players.
Well, many players suggested the same strategy for Gas Mines. It would also be kind of a protest, as players have been asking for new content for weeks. Some players found getting the Gas Mines quite offensive.
Truth be told, we are quite ambivalent on this topic. A new Stratagem would be fine, it isn’t game-changing, but it could be fine. The one thing that bothers, we can safely say, the majority of players is the lack of communication. We are sure that the players wouldn’t mind Arrowhead taking as much time needed for the next big thing if the devs announced it. Not knowing what or when is coming is what annoys the players. Still, the game is in an overall good condition, so, hopefully, the players will find ways to occupy themselves while they wait. For Liberty and Super Earth.
