Outrageous Prices and Poorly-Thought-Out Commentary Sour the First-Ever Helldivers 2 Collab

Following the amazing several days since the Omens of Tyranny update and the Urban Legends Warbond dropped, it’s time for some drama in the Helldivers 2 community. On December 18, the Superstore was updated and Helldivers 2 players got their first-ever collab, with Killzone. Truth be told, the designs are truly amazing, and Helldivers loved the collab at first sight. However, once they checked the prices, it turned out that getting everything would be quite a pricey treat. Players took to social media to complain, only to stumble upon some quite unexpected comments from the Arrowhead CEO.

The Helldivers 2 x Killzone Collab Is Live in Superstore

The official Helldivers 2 account on X shared the news of their collab with Killzone. The devs noted: “Dispatch from Acquisition Centre Superstore: To celebrate your heroics in liberating the Voteless from their tortured existence, we’re bringing to the table our first official crossover – Helldivers x Killzone”.

You might have seen leaks of this collab floating around the internet, supposedly this was supposed to be a Warbond named Righteous Revenants. And, it surely looks amazing. However, getting all of these items would be quite costly, 1975 Super Credits, to be precise.

Given that there aren’t many players with so many Super Credits laying around, especially since the Urban Legends Warbond just dropped, many players would have to buy some SC to get this fit. At the current prices, you’d have to get 2100 SC for €20 to be able to afford the new items. Since the StA-52 Assault Rifle is brand new, it will be hard to resist.

Aut15tHarriot noted: “I understand the increase in pricing for the crossover cosmetics due to licensing whatever (tbh, probably actually isn’t an issue considering it’s still Sony). But, having a weapon in the superstore is what annoys me. If enough people purchase/don’t express their distaste, then AH/Sony will continue to enforce these monetary practices”.

Helldivers Worry That This Is a Dangerous Precedent

Meanwhile, the CEO of Arrowhead, Shams Jorjani got himself in hot water for the announcement of the Killzone x Helldivers 2 collab. Now, we’d like to point out that this was most likely just poorly phrased, but it made some Helldivers concerned for the future.

The CEO noted: “Hey – quick comment on the Helghast stuff. Firstly – this is our first collaboration so we’ll be figuring it out as we go along. Let us know what you’d like to see in the future. Secondly, it’s optional – the more of this we sell – the more illuminate type stuff we can keep dropping for free”.

We get the intent, sure. Paying for the content in a game will allow the devs to create more free content for everyone. However, something about that last part of the comment truly ruffled some feathers in the Helldivers 2 community. GhostBabel noted: “Dawg, you really shouldn’t be planting the seed of the possibility of having to pay for non-collab / content updates into people’s heads”.

Jorjani probably realized how his previous statement could be perceived. He responded: “To be clear – that’s not what we want to do. But the better the overall business does the bigger/better the ongoing free updates will be”.

So, we’ll all have to wait and see if Arrowhead stays true to this. As for now, the players are quite disappointed by the exclusivity and high price points. Hopefully, Arrowhead will hear the players out, just like they did before. Until then, the only thing left to do is join the Major Order and kill some Squids. For Liberty and Super Earth.
