The Illuminate leaks just keep coming! It seems that the Arrowhead devs have quite a few plans for the future of this faction. The latest leaks show off a new unit, the Sentinels, but its resemblance to an existing unit raises some questions among the Helldivers 2 players.
Leaks Show Off the Illuminate Sentinels
On June 18, one of the most prolific Helldivers 2 leakers and data miners, IronS1ghts, shared some new images of the previously leaked Sentinels. Now, Sentinels are one of the first Illuminate units that were leaked, all the way back in August 2024. However, they haven’t made an appearance… yet.
Now, if you’ve ever fought the Illuminate, you can see a clear resemblance to Harvesters, right? The OP noted: “Like the observer, this unit may also be scrapped. If it’s not scrapped, this would be the Cultists’ alternative to the Harvester. Much Weaker, but it moves faster and has more powerful abilities. At long ranges, the tripod can fire a “deathball”, which is a homing projectile”.
They added: “I don’t think they are scrapped. It just has a higher likelihood to be than most leaks I post 🙂 The observer and sentinel were the two units that got their functions completely overwritten by the current Illuminate we have. So if they were to return, it would be under different function names”.
Helldivers 2 Players Are Slightly Concerned About the Future of Sentinels
Now, obviously, the same applies to all the data-mined content – devs may decide to scrape it, or use it at a later date. However, Helldivers 2 players are slightly more doubtful that they’d see Sentinels anywhere other than these leaks.
First, many players worry that the Sentinels could be scrapped, as they resemble the Harvesters too much. One player, CrowThing, noted: “I really don’t think these are scrapped, they’re entirely modeled and animated with custom attacks and properties. It would be a huge waste of resources and time if they did. It’s probably just for a subfaction”.
So, the Sentinels could be like a sub-faction, most likely connected to the Cultists, according to speculations. On the other hand, some players think that the current Illuminate roster would be completely replaced, although that isn’t very likely to happen.
Well, there’s no way to tell, so we’ll have to wait and see. One thing is for sure – the Illuminate will have a big role in the Second Galactic War! So, let’s try to ruin their efforts and take back what’s ours. The latest Major Order is quite demanding, so join us as soon as possible. And, yes, bring the cape! We’ll be on Alamak VII.
