The Escalation of Freedom update is finally here, following a couple of weeks of extreme hype around it. Since it’s been only a couple of hours since the drop, at the time of writing this article, we can only say that the initial reviews are mixed. However, one major problem tips the scales toward the bad side. So far, none of the Helldivers 2 players managed to unlock the level 10 difficulty.
Players Report Being Unable to Play on Level 10 Difficulty
Players can find more details about the Super Helldive (level 10 difficulty) in the patch notes. According to them, Supper Helldive is “a new, extreme difficulty level designed for the most experienced and skilled Helldivers, featuring formidable new enemies and intense challenges”.
The experienced players who rushed to try out the new difficulty were bitterly disappointed. First of all, you can’t just select the Super Helldive difficulty, you need to finish a mission on Helldive first. Devoted players jumped right into action, but to no avail, Super Helldive remained behind a lock.
AstraAnima was one of the first players to point out this problem. They noted: “Super Helldive isn’t unlocking. I just completed a full Helldive operation, and it’s still not allowing me to play Super Helldive”. Raidertck confirmed: “I have beaten hundreds upon hundreds of them prior to the update. Just beat a set of 3 and still getting this problem”.
Dozens of players reported the same problem. Among them, Unhappy_Animal_9341, covered all the possible combinations and still couldn’t unlock the Super Helldive. They stated: “I’ve done two operations on difficulty 9 after the new update, and it still says “Complete an operation on Helldive to unlock” when I try to select difficulty 10. I did one full operation in a friend’s session, and one full operation as host. Neither has unlocked difficulty 10″.
Helldivers 2 CEO Confirms the Problem Is Being Worked On
Most Helldivers 2 players want to know what the problem with level 10 difficulty is. So far, the players have been guessing what the problem was. SchwiftyRickD-42069 suggested: “So, I think it’s locked right now due to the performance issues listed in the known issues list of the patch notes”.
Sure enough, the patch notes state: “These are issues that were either introduced by this patch and are being worked on, or are from a previous version and have not yet been fixed. We are aware of and currently investigating some performance issues with difficulty 10, we have begun working on a fix”.
Following the complaints, the CEO of Arrowhead, Shams Jorjani, briefly addressed the problem. He stated: “We’re aware and monitoring it. We might have fixed it already but troubleshooting rn”.
It seems that level 10 difficulty will arrive in Helldivers 2 with a little delay. In our opinion, better late than never. We also think that the devs made the right decision by delaying the Super Helldive, rather than giving the players a bugged-out version. So, be patient, and go try out the other features.
