Arrowhead still has a lot of plans for Helldivers 2. From new missions, and new enemies (Obelisks, when?) to new Warbonds and weapons. Concerning the latter, from time to time we get glimpses of upcoming weapons, and this time a well-known leaker shared a video showing a new Primary Weapon for Helldivers 2 – a variant of JAR-5 Dominator called Thermite. We already saw leaks for a Toxic variant, so let’s see what this one is all about.
The weapon arsenal in Helldivers 2 is pretty large. There are various types of Assault Rifles, Shotguns, and more. Sometimes, a weapon is simply a variant of an existing one, with some tweaks. For example, the old trusty Liberator has three additional variants, each slightly different. And now, the JAR-5 Dominator is allegedly getting a new variant.
JAR-5 Dominator Thermite Gameplay Video Shared by a Known Helldivers 2 Leaker
IronS1ghts is arguably the most famous Helldivers 2 leaker and is responsible for a lot of leaks and tidbits of info circulating the community. Recently, they shared a gameplay video showing how a weapon called JAR-5 Dominator Thermite works.
It looks like your regular JAR-5 Dominator, but with the added effect of burning the enemies it hits. According to IronS1ghts, the burning effect is probably a placeholder for the Thermite effect, which we all know from the Thermite Grenade. They continue, saying: “I think this may be an early iteration of a new weapon to release. Similar to the old Punisher “Fire of Liberty” Variant, which ended up being the SG-451 Cookout”
The initial reactions from the fans are lukewarm at best, with comments like “I’ll be honest it’s kind of underwhelming. I was expecting better of this weapon.” from MalDamba_, and “I see a lot of dead divers using this one, especially to leaping Hunters that are on fire.” by LtBuzzLitebeer. But, as stated by IronS1ghts, the flaming effect is most likely a placeholder and the real deal will be way more devastating.
Hopefully, it will be a weapon that can deal some significant damage to Heavy targets. According to the video, it has 24 rounds per magazine, and 4 magazines in total, which is not much, meaning that it will probably be pretty powerful, to offset the lack of bullets. Time will tell!
