Does the Difficulty Affect the Enemies’ HP? Some Helldivers 2 Players Claim it Does, While Others Praise the Devs For Not Letting it

Helldivers 2 community usually finds common ground quite easily. However, in some instances, finding common ground is almost impossible. Recently, some devoted Helldivers 2 players vocalized their gratitude toward the developers’ decision not to increase the enemies’ HP on higher levels of difficulty. This observation triggered some community members, as they were sure the enemies’ HP increased with the difficulty.

Does the Enemies’ HP Actually Increase in Helldivers 2?

Truth be told, no player ever has asked for an enemy HP increase. Most players think that’s just a lazy strategy to make higher difficulties more challenging. However, it’s frustrating and makes the game less enjoyable.

Now, if you’ve been playing Helldivers 2 for a while, and you’ve reached higher levels of difficulty, you know that the enemies feel pretty much the same as they did on lower levels. Still, some players have noticed subtle differences.

WitheredPlate noted: “Actually, and this is minor, but I believe Warriors gain a ~50% increase in health when moving from diff 3 to 4 or something. Bile Spewers (not Nursing Spewers) also gain more armor somewhere? (2 -> 3)”.

Another player, Lothar0295, elaborated: “It does change Bile Spewers, at least. In Difficulty 5 the head armor of Bile Spewers is very weak, and they can be taken down by any AR or the Sickle with ease. At higher difficulties not only are their heads more armored (requiring medium penetration), but they also have their Bile Bombardment ability”.

Hunters are, reportedly, also on the list of enemies whose HP increases with difficulty. As a reminder, if you want to, you can always test out these hypotheses yourself. Now, even though there might be some differences in HP, the fact is that the majority of players won’t ever notice them since the differences are relatively subtle. Also, how often have you actually faced a Bile Spewer on a lower difficulty?

Helldivers Share Their Two Cents

After the latest update that buffed the Senator, the Purifier, and so many other weapons, the players worry that the devs will buff the enemies next. JellyF1sh_L1cker stated: “With the recent change in AH’s vision on the game, I think they will add this mechanic for 11 and further. Not just upscale tho, probably do automaton special forces/evolved Terminids that will appear on higher diffs”.

Obviously, this is something that concerns many players. One player, theswarmoftheeast, explained: “HP scaling for difficulty is a stupid way to inflate difficulty. “Your sniper rifle doesn’t one-shot enemies after the 6th difficulty, even with a headshot” is the dumbest feeling ever”.

The current changes are subtle enough to fly under the radar, so the players gladly praised the devs. A Redditor, vanillamspaintnoob, raved: “Helldivers is a massive W for this fact. I hate bullet sponge enemies, so immersion ruining”.

We do agree that there are better ways than increasing the enemies’ HP to make higher difficulties in Helldivers 2 more challenging.
