Helldivers 2 devs reveal major Flamethrower buff in the upcoming 01.001.007 update

Freedom's Flame Armor in Helldivers 2

Following the disappointing Escalation of Freedom update, which saw popular weapons such as the Breaker Incendiary Shotgun and Flamethrower be nerfed, Helldivers 2 has been on a downward spiral that caused the developers to release a 60-day roadmap that explained how they plan to fix the game. The first update of the roadmap is right around the corner and is said to have 6-8 pages of patch notes, so we can expect dozens of weapons to be buffed and changed.

Arrowhead Game Studios took to the Helldivers 2 official Discord server to announce that over the next week, as the 01.001.007 update draws closer, the developers will “shed more and more light on the September 17th update.”

The first weapon that is being highlighted is the Flamethrower, which saw a lot of backlash from the community when it was nerfed in the Escalation of Freedom update. In the Discord post, Arrowhead announced the buff by saying,

“We’ve heard you loud and clear and Flamethrower damage is increased by 33%! Flamer mechanics will be reverted to the state before the Escalation of Freedom update and flamebased weapons can now damage heavier enemies like Chargers, Bile Titans, Impalers and Hulks.”

The team also shared a video where they discussed the upcoming buff, with Niklas Malmborg stating that the developers “just went back” and reverted flame weapons to how they were prior to the update, saying that “it was the right thing to do.” Johan Pilestedt also revealed that “flame weapons have also gotten an armor penetration increase.”

Many players have been understandably skeptical when it comes to the 60-day roadmap, as Arrowhead Game Studios has overpromised and underdelivered many times in the past. But, it does look like they are taking the update seriously and are aiming to regain the trust of the community, and buffing fire is a great first step to take. Players have just one week to wait for the first update in the 60-day roadmap as the 01.001.007 update is set to go live on Tuesday, September 17th.
