If you weren’t aware, Destiny turned 10 on September 9. The Destiny 2 developers issued a lengthy blog post featuring some exciting plans for the next year, as well as some anniversary surprises, of which one returning weapon stole the show.
The Devs Will Bring Back a Fan-Favorite Weapon for the Anniversary of Destiny
According to the blog post, players will be treated to both the armor sets and the Legend Title, but something even bigger is coming. The announcement read: “As you may have already guessed thanks to our key art, a certain Exotic Sniper Rifle, one considered a myth by many at this point, is resurfacing in the upcoming Dungeon. We’ll share more info at a later date, but we hope this helped… break the ice“.
Immediately, the devoted players took to social media to celebrate the news. The infamous Ice Breaker will seemingly drop in Destiny 2. NoOn3_1415 had the most relatable reaction we’ve ever witnessed. They said: “I know it’s entirely nostalgia bait, but Ice Breaker was my first ever exotic, so it’s working”. Honestly – same here.
Other players expressed how overjoyed they were. Some players even raved about finally showing the Ice Breaker to the next generation of Destiny players (their children). StinkNuggets420 noted: “YES! Oh boy. I’ve been telling my son about it for years and how that’s the one sniper I want back so badly. Can’t wait”.
Some Players Have Concerns Regarding the State of Destiny 2
As most of the players were celebrating the anniversary, some were concerned that the return of a fan-favorite weapon meant that Destiny 2 was in trouble. Developers famously insisted that the Ice Breaker was retired for good, so them bringing it back now raised red flags for some players.
ImmaterialSpectre noted: “Destiny 2: Starts dying again. Bungie: RELEASE THE EMERGENCY NOSTALGIA”. MrMisklanius added: “Man things must be really bleak, they broke THE “in case of emergency” glass”.
Of course, other players worried that the new Ice Breaker wouldn’t be as good as the old one. 7fw stated: “It won’t be like the original, generating its own ammo. It will have some “Pull from reserves” mechanic. They just can’t make it good”.
Well, we’ll have to wait and see, but we truly hope that Bungie will deliver. It would be a horrible miss if they brought back a broken weapon. Hopefully, the players will get what they deserve, a perfect Ice Breaker. What are your expectations?
