Phew, the Helldivers managed to complete the Major Order, and the Illuminate disappeared once again. If it weren’t for all the ruins on Calypso, you wouldn’t even know they returned. Even though Helldivers 2 players had to execute hordes of Voteless, many players claim fighting on Calypso was the most fun they had since fighting on Malevelon Creek. And, according to some data, it was even deadlier than the Creek.
Was Calypso the Deadliest Battle So Far?
Now that the dust has settled down, players finally have some time to analyze everything that happened over the last couple of days. The Illuminate came and wreaked chaos. In response, the number of players skyrocketed. It peaked at around 150k but overall it didn’t fall below 50k at any time during the Illuminate invasion.
As you probably know, the latest Major Order lasted for three days. In the first couple of days, the players killed more than 2 billion Squids. They didn’t hold back on the last day of the MO, either. According to a third-party app, War Monitor, a total of 3,1 billion Squids were killed during this defense.
One player, cupnoodle3107, pointed out another interesting stat. They noted: “Melevelon Creek, the deadliest battle in Helldivers 2 claimed 27 million Helldivers in 9 weeks. But, Calypso… Calypso claimed 27 million Helldivers in 2 days… the bloodiest battle”.
The stats for both planets confirm that many more lives were lost on Calypso. According to War Monitor, around 38,4 million Helldivers gave their lives in the fight against the Illuminate. Meanwhile, the bots claimed around 25 million kills on Malevelon Creek.
Helldivers Compare Fighting on Malevelon Creek and Calypso
Even though so many Helldivers 2 players sacrificed their lives during the Illuminate attack, the sentiment around the whole Calypso incident is quite different from the one around Creek. Players left Calypso happy and wanting more, while Creek just broke the players (they still wanted more, though).
One player, MastuhWaffles, noted: “Yeah but the Creek gave me PTSD. The Illuminate only fueled my bloodlust for more”. Another player, Select_Ad3588, added: “In the Creek, you were only a boy. As the months have gone by you’ve stepped into your boots as a Helldiver, you know now the real threat is you”.
Interesting-Injury87 explained why the two battles shouldn’t be compared. This player stated: “The major difference is that… the Creek was a pointless meatgrinder. We didn’t gain ground, we didn’t HOLD ground, we lost more than we gained at every turn. The forces on the creek died for nothing… The forces on Calypso fought tooth and nail and won”.
Now, we wouldn’t fully agree that the Creek was for nothing, but we suppose nothing was achieved. We did, however, try to spread Managed Democracy there, as we should everywhere. Still, the players can now only hope the Illuminate will resurface soon. In the meantime, you’ll find us trying out the new Warbond on bots and bugs. For Liberty and Super Earth.
