“Are Outposts Irrelevant Now?” The First Descendant Hotfix 1.2.2 Is Right Around the Corner and the Players Have Some Questions

Last week was full of updates and Hotfixes. Season 2, while generally pretty great, had a ton of errors and Nexon was quick to address the majority of them (unfortunately, the players still report crashes). On top of that, the devs revealed some info about the upcoming updates. And now, the Hotfix 1.2.2 for The First Descendant has just been announced, revealing some of the upcoming changes, and the players have some questions about them.

The First Descendant Hotfix 1.2.2

Just now, on December 17, TFD’s X page posted that the Hotfix 1.2.2 is coming on December 18, 18:30 PST. For our European friends, that translates to December 19, 2:30am GMT and 3:30am CET. As for the upcoming changes, Nexon shared a patch preview:

  • Void Intercept Battle & Descendant balance adjusted
  • Reactor options improved
  • Outpost rewards relocated to Infiltration Ops
  • Valby’s Evolving Skin evolution conditions eased
  • “Quick Turn” setting added
  • Bug fixes & more

Players Want Some Answers

Most of these were already mentioned in previous devtalks. Starting from the top, what exactly they mean by balance adjustments is unknown. We know they are planning to make more Descendants viable, and possibly nerf some unpopular Colossi. The fans speculate whether it means more nerf to the Molten Fortress or maybe some for the Infernal Walker. At the same time, Blair seems to be everyone’s choice for buffs. Do we even dare to mention Luna? On the other hand, the devs mentioned that they want to make more Colossi beatable by solo players, so this may very well be the balance adjustments they announced.

Moving on, “Reactor options improved” most definitely means we’ll no longer be able to get Reactors with mismatched damage/Arche type. So no more Burning Reactors with bonuses to Chill damage, for example.

Now, the big one. “Outpost rewards relocated to Infiltration Ops” was announced a while back, before Sharen was announced as the next Ultimate Descendant. Players were a bit tired of farming the Outposts and not everyone had access to Sharen (or wanted to play her) to make that a bit easier, and have asked for some reworks. The devs said that the plan is to move the Outposts-only rewards to regular Infiltrations. But that begs the question: Are outposts irrelevant now? Others even think that outposts are getting removed from the game entirely, but that is highly unlikely.

As for the answers, we can only speculate. The devs will most likely reshuffle how Outposts work, and some players even claim that, with the new Target Rewards system, you can get those Outpost-only Amorphous Materials pretty quickly. Faster than doing a while Infiltration, that’s for sure. Hopefully, all will be explained tomorrow.

Next, a weird one. The devs talked about easing the conditions needed to evolve your, well, Evolving Skins. However, no one expected “Valby’s Evolving Skin evolution conditions eased”. As it stands, no one was considerably irritated with the requirements for Valby’s Evolving Skill. Sure, some had issues with being forced to use a certain Skill to do so, but in general, it was fine. What some players actually wanted to see was the reduction of kills needed to evolve Bunny’s Evolving Skin. Maybe it will be added in the next update, it’s quite possible.

Lastly, “Quick Turn” was already mentioned, and it’s there mostly to help console players out. It’s a feature that allows you to make a quick 180-degree turn (mostly needed for Keelan shenanigans, but overall useful). That’s not as easy to perform using a controller as using a mouse & keyboard.

All in all, The First Descendant Hotfix 1.2.2 sounds cool, but we, the players, have some questions. Questions that need answering. Hopefully, they WILL get answered as soon as the update officially drops.
