When Helldivers 2 dropped, it caused quite a commotion. The developers didn’t expect so many players would join the Second Galactic War. Still, many veterans from the First Galactic War joined Helldivers 2, as well. Recently, they shared what’s different in the Second Galactic War and how one hundred years of peace affected the newer generations of Helldivers.
Some Helldivers Claim First Galactic War Was Technologically More Advanced
Many veterans were quite adamant that the Super Earth’s technology degraded in the time between the two wars. It seems that many blueprints were lost and forgotten since there wasn’t much need for them. Or the Super Earth scientists just became quite lazy.
Any_Sample_8306 noted: “Railgun lost the magazine and is somehow still a “Prototype weapon” after 100 years. All energy guns now look like toolroom prototypes, with exposed cables and duct-taped thermal matting despite being the exact same weapons as the FGW. No more Medigun, now to heal people you need to shoot stims at them with a nerf pistol. Commando isn’t a self-guided Fire and Forget missile anymore. Eagle has to resort to unguided rockets for anti-tank, while it used to have actual anti-tank missiles in the first war”.
Let’s not forget about some of the classics, the Trident, the Bolter Riffle, ah, the tanks! Many players also mourned the Orbital Stratagems with a 60-second cooldown, now long gone. Some players even pointed out that even the capes were harder to spin now.
Observant players shared their opinions on why did all of this happen. SWatt_Officer stated: “In the century of peace, Super Earth has grown complacent, and the military tech has stagnated as a result, large reserves depleted and no big new advancements”.
Another player, InformalPenguinz, added: “I mean that’s kind of on par with how a “democracy” like this would be run. 100% there’s an upper class stealing super creds. A degradation of quality is honestly meta IMO”.
Some Veterans Insist That the Progress Is Visible
Still, some First Galactic War veterans acknowledged that Helldivers 2 wasn’t all that bad. Many improvements have been made, and many more are still to come. Some players pointed out that everything seemed to cost less in the Second Galactic War, so Super Earth is doing well, we’d guess.
One player, rtnal90, shared all of the positive changes. They said: “In Helldivers 1 you had to pick Resupply as one of your stratagems or else you wouldn’t have it. There was no reinforcement budget, if everyone died at the same time the mission instantly failed. Turrets of any sort were socially unacceptable in a 4-man squad. Because of the top-down view, the terrain was completely flat and all bullets flew at chest height. You couldn’t spread out across the map, all 4 players had to be on screen at the same time. Vehicles were fun but were also kind of a joke”.
Now, it’s important to remember that every era has its pros and cons. Also, some items from the First Galactic War might show up during the current one, as well. Or, some enemies. So, do your duty, and try to enjoy other aspects of the game. Also, always show some respect to your fellow divers. For Liberty and Super Earth.
