An Old Helldivers 2 Trailer Showed a Very Different Version of Mechs

Sometimes, looking back can provide you with some very unexpected findings. While doing their best and fighting the pesky Automatons in the new Major Order, some divers, eager to learn from the community’s past, dug up an old trailer. What these Helldivers 2 players didn’t expect was to see the probably original design for mechs in the trailer.

Devoted Helldivers Rediscovered an Old Trailer

Just to note, this trailer, “The Story So Far”, was released before the mechs found their way into Helldivers 2. One eagle-eyed Helldiver, Creepy_Ad3991, noticed a peculiar detail right around the one-minute mark. They stated: “In the Helldivers 2 – Official “The Story So Far” Trailer they depicted the mech with the Stratagem launcher”.

Hard-core Helldivers, veterans of the previous installment, quickly noted that this was possible in the first game. It’s possible that the design for Helldivers 2 mechs wasn’t ready, so they used an old reference in the trailer.

Another viable possibility was developers straying away from this design because it demanded too much work. Elegant-River-5068 said: “My theory is that they planned on having it come with the mech but then their programmers couldn’t make it work”.

Helldivers 2 Players Wish for Upgrades for Mechs

Of course, most of the Helldivers hope that maybe, at some point in the future, this design will be available. The player base believes that the mechs would be much more useful if they had this feature.

MojoTheFabulous stated: “With how poorly the rockets functioned there is no doubt in my mind that any time you used a Stratagem it’d just get stuck on the mech. That being said I feel like they’ll eventually get it done. If they ever open up the Vehicle Bay and move the mechs over to that, they can get dedicated upgrades”.

Another player, twopurplecards, noticed: “At the top of the mech there’s a hatch for Stratagems. It could be added later as an upgrade”. Meme_Finder_General added: “You can’t have a live service game with new upgrades added periodically…if you don’t intentionally leave deficiencies with equipment for players to grind upgrades for”.

Keep in mind that creating a game is no easy feat. The important thing is that the devs are still actively working on the game. Hopefully, the future will include the Vehicle Bay and more upgrades for mechs. Until then, be patient, eliminate some bots, and maybe try some other builds to keep things fresh.
