Every second counts on a battlefield. So, discovering a hack that would save you some time is always more than welcome. Recently, an urban legend resurfaced, according to some players, if you salute the flag, it will rise faster. Well, in a shocking twist, it turns out it’s an easter egg and the flag actually does rise faster, as confirmed by Helldivers 2 CCO.
The Flag Urban Legend Is Actually an Easter Egg
It’s the holiday season, and aside from joy, Helldivers are also spreading Managed Democracy. Several players noted how they would always salute the flag as a sign of devotion to Super Earth. Other players chirped in claiming that the flag actually rises faster.
A whole argument ensued, as the players couldn’t agree whether this was true. And then, Pilestedt stepped in. The CCO has lately been quite active on Reddit, sharing philosophies and ideas with the players. This time, he solved a mystery. Pilestedt noted: “No it’s true. Everyone at the studio did it, so one of the coders added it as an Easter egg”.
A YouTuber Shows the Difference Between Saluting and Not Saluting the Flag
If you are still having trouble believing that this flag easter egg is true, one Helldivers 2 YouTuber showed it off in a video. At the 5.50 mark, Eravin talks about this lovely detail implemented in the game.
This YouTuber remarked that the flag rises 13% quicker per Helldiver. In other words, this effect is stackable. They also pointed out that this didn’t work with any other emotes, just the salute.
Truth be told, we’ve been doing this without ever realizing that it had any impact on how fast the flag was rising. This is probably true for many Helldivers, as saluting the flag might be one of the most democratic acts one can do. However, now you know that this act comes with a wonderful perk.
