Fortnite is synonymous with its collaborations and skins. Over the years, players could don their characters in all manner of famous skins. One of the latest collabs was with Nike and AirMax. Titled Airphoria, it provides two skins that have found mixed reactions with the community. While some love the skins, or at least parts of them, others have strong negative opinions about them.
Fan Reaction to Fortnite Skin Collaboration With Nike and AirMax
It’s nothing new that players would have different opinions when it comes to cosmetics in a game. That just comes with the territory. Something for everyone, and all that. However, these skins seem to draw players’ ire on several grounds, as can be read in this Reddit thread.
The skins can be bought in a bundle that includes a pair of outfits and back blings. As is often the case, they come in a male and female variant. Some players like the way the skins look, praising the original approach and solutions to what could’ve been just another “trendy outfit” skin.
The female skin, named Airie, has received almost universal praise. She represents the Nike AIR style that players seem to resonate with. Her male counterpart Maxxed Out Max though… he’s had it a bit more rough.
Many players cite that his design is a bit “too busy” and we can see why. He’s made out of all sorts of Nike sports paraphernalia, and A LOT of shoe soles. It just looks odd. As user Fluffy_boy_cheddar puts it: “I like the female skin but the male just has too much going on. Neat concept though”.
- The sturdy material on the top is lightweight durable.
- Triple stitching around the collar to eliminate hot spots
- The Crater foam midsole adds stability with every step.
- Initially designed for performance racing, the Max Air unit in the heel adds lightweight cushioning.
- The translucent rubber wraps over the fender for added durability.
The Skins Can’t be Bought Separately?
The top comment by Erow69 probably puts it best when it comes to the main issue: “What’s up with all robots taking over”. It really does seem that Fortnite’s had a long run of robot skins lately, with Optimus Prime being the latest example.
Another point of contention is that these can only be bought in a bundle costing 1800 V-Bucks. The pricing is a problem for many, but far more are concerned that the skins can’t be bought separately. We know which one would’ve outsold the other.
As with all aesthetic options, players will always be divided. However, these skins have drawn a stronger reaction than usual. The bigger concern, in our opinion, is that the players don’t have the option to get the one they want without the other. What are your thoughts on this and the new Nike skins?
