How to Fix Can’t Access Shadow of the Erdtree Error in Elden Ring

From what we gathered, this error is a licensing one. It boils down to the game not “realizing” that the DLC is there, and you have to shake it up a little bit. The players offered some solutions that you can try out. Bear in mind that some players had success with these and others did not. The fixes are not universal, but we hope that they will work for YOU.

Restore Licences (PS5)

The most popular fix for this issue is restoring licenses, as the majority of players report that this has helped them out. To restore licences:

  • Press the Home button.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Users & Accounts.
  • On the left-hand side menu select Other.
  • Finally, select the Restore Licenses option.

Download the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

It may happen that your platform hasn’t downloaded the DLC at all, so you have to do it manually. Remember that you need to have Elden Ring already installed before you can add Shadow of the Erdtree.

  • PC – Find Shadow of the Erdtree on Steam, and select Download.
  • PS5 – Find Elden Ring in your Library, in the Purchased section. Then choose PlayStation Store, then Your Add-Ons, and select the arrow icon beside Shadow of the Erdtree to start downloading.
  • Xbox Series X/S – Find the Elden Ring game card among your installed games, select Manage, and then Install DLC.

Update Elden Ring to the Latest Version

Naturally, the game needs to be up to date to run the DLC, so make sure that you have the latest version (1.12) installed.

Reinstall the Game

If none of the above worked, then there is nothing left to do then to reinstall the whole game. A fresh installation will surely resolve all the licensing and similar errors and will finally enable you to enjoy the DLC.
