The highly-anticipated Elden Ring Update is finally here. The fans asked predominantly for boss nerfs and ability buffs. Some even asked for Boss Rush mode to be added. But, surprisingly, the changes are hit-and-miss. But, there is one improvement, a pretty minor one, that has taken the Elden Ring community by surprise and was very well received.
The Default Selection for Spectral Steed Whistle Is Now “OK”
The 1.13 Patch fixed many bugs and added some balance changes, but it is far from what the fans wanted. But, one change stands out from the rest, and that is the change to the Spectral Steed Whistle.
The change is “Changed the default selection of the OK / CANCEL prompt that shows up when using the “Spectral Steed Whistle” while the spectral steed is dead. The default selection position is now OK. “
Hundreds of players praised this pretty minor change, saying how up until now, the resummoning of your steed was frustrating. When resummoning Torrent, the prompt asking you to confirm it (and use up a Flask of Crimson Tears) appears, but the default selection was CANCEL, rather than OK.
Now, with this simple change, the community went wild. On one patch notes Reddit post, statements like “I used to pray for times like these “, “Stopped reading at this. Only thing I needed to know.” or ‘The best part of the update. “ dominate the comment section.
Others are more skeptical, saying that it was about time. User Whitebread100 asked: “They noticed that only now?” with similar comments agreeing, like the one from Wolfgang_von_Caelid: “Cannot believe it took them this long, but better late than never”.
We Got More Improvements While Some Major Issues Were Ignored
Apart from this positive update, the community was hoping for a nerf to Radahn more than anything. Katharsis7 stated: “I’m actually surprised that Radahn’s cross slash combo was not patched. Is it really intentional that you get hit unless you keep sticking to his right leg? “ with other agreed, saying: “Not fixing his hitbox is surprising” and “It seems like Miyazaki doesn’t care about it”
On the other hand, the massively-requested buff to Rain of Fire is finally here. The community rejoices with comments like “Rain of Fire actually does Triple Digit Damage now!” and “…watch Rain of Fire be completely broken (in a good way) now.” so not everything is bad.
In summary, the Patch had a lukewarm welcome. Some of the changes improved the game, but a lot of other, more pressing issues remain unresolved. We expect that future patches will gradually fix everything that’s bugging the Elden Ring fans.
