Will Dragon’s Dogma 2 Be Locked at 30fps on All Platforms?

In the simplest terms, the answer is yes and no. Back in February, director Hideaki Itsuno announced via X (formerly Twitter) that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released with an uncapped framerate. We soon received more details about this announcement in an interview with Game Informer, during which the director elaborated on the prior statement and the game’s performance on consoles.

“We’re aiming to go at around or higher than 30 FPS. That is for consoles as well. There are some functions that you can turn on and off, but there aren’t multiple sets of options that you can change at once.”

Itsuno clarified that the uncapped framerate applies not only to PC, but also to Xbox Series X|S and PS5. However, he went on to say the studio is aiming for a framerate of around 30fps or higher, meaning those playing on console will be effectively locked in without traditional Performance or Graphics modes to alter the framerate while PC players won’t be quite as affected.

With an uncapped framerate, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will likely run at 60fps or higher on PC, given your setup is able to handle it. Essentially, it all depends on the hardware you’re working with. To prepare, many players have already taken to Steam forums, discussing the game’s potential performance. Many on PC are confident in their setup, though others are hoping for top-notch optimization on console.
