Added in Season 4 of Diablo 4, Masterworking is a new endgame crafting system. Using this new system will allow players to upgrade affixes on their gear and tailor items to fit their specific builds. You will have to grind a lot since this process requires a lot of resources. Luckily, the results can be quite powerful, so it will not be a waste to invest your time into getting those resources.
Diablo 4 Masterworking
Masterworking is an endgame crafting system that allows players to upgrade items up to 12 times for materials and gold costs. This system can only be used on Ancestral Legendary items that have been fully Tempered. This means that this is a final item upgrade option currently in the game.
Masterworking is a separate upgrade option to Tempering, and it improves on existing item powers rather than adding new ones. Every rank upgraded through this process will increase the power of all affixes by 5%, with a few exceptions. Following is the table of all Masterwork Ranks in Diablo 4:

How to Unlock Masterworking
To unlock Masterworking in Diablo 4, players must meet only one condition. The character you are using must reach World Tier 4, which is currently the highest Tier in the game. Once you achieve this, the quest “Pit of Artificer” will become available, and completing this quest will get you access to the new end-game dungeon called The Pit. Once you have completed the first run in The Pit, the Masterworking option will be added to the blacksmiths.
How to Use Masterworking
Using the Masterworking system is pretty simple, after it is unlocked, you just need to select it from the blacksmith’s menu. After that, you need to pick a fully Tampered Legendary or Unique item and pay the cost. However, some materials needed for Masterworking are only common to the late game. Obducite, Ingolith, and Neathiron can only be found in The Pit.
