Are you having trouble getting into higher-tier Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo IV? No problem, this guide will teach you everything you need to know.
The end game is arguably the most important part of any action RPG game. In Diablo 4, Nightmare Dungeons represent the largest part of this part of the game. Along with Helltides and World Bosses, Nightmare Dungeons have a chance to provide your character with the biggest gear upgrades.
Moreover, unlike the other two, Nightmare Dungeons can scale in difficulty and profitability, making them the main treadmill for your Diablo 4 end game. That is because they can have progressively higher tiers. In this guide, we will explain how to get to higher-tier Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4.
How To Reach High Tier Nightmare Dungeons?
Your character’s ability to reach high-tier Nightmare Dungeons largely depends on your build and your gear. The early tiers monsters are fairly simple to defeat, but the higher you climb, the more difficult they get.
After completing the campaign, the Tree of Whispers becomes available. To start off, you will get a Nightmare Sigil after completing 10 Grim Favors from the Tree of Whispers. This will provide you with your first Nightmare Sigil. However, to unlock the ability to craft further higher-tier Nightmare sigils at the Occultist, you’ll need to complete a Tier 3 Nightmare Dungeon first.
Since the game doesn’t make it immediately obvious, there are a few ways to get a T3 Sigil:
- Progression and luck. This way, you can try going through Tier 1 Nightmare Dungeon which has a chance to drop a Tier 2 Nightmare Sigil. Then do the same for Tier 3 and so on. This is the simplest and slowest method available.
- Torment Tree of Whispers Cache. By playing on World Tier 4: Torment, caches that you get from Tree of Whispers have a chance of dropping Tier 21 and higher Nightmare Sigils. This can skyrocket your grind by leaps and bounds.
- Partying with a high-level player. You can join a party with someone who’s already on a higher-tier Nightmare Dungeon, and after completing one of their high-tier Nightmare Dungeons with them, you’ll get the crafting quest.
Using Occultist Crafting To Get to High-Tier Nightmare Dungeons
Once you’ve unlocked Sigil crafting, visit the Occultist to Craft Sigils and Salvage Sigils. To craft Nightmare Sigils, you will first need to salvage unwanted Sigils from your inventory, found in the Consumables Tab, to get Sigil Powder. That’s going to be your main crafting material.
You can then use it to craft Sacred Sigils that are up to Tier 20, as well as Ancestral Sigils that go up to Tier 100. Each progressive tier costs more materials and gold to craft. It also represents a more difficult and lucrative Nightmare Dungeon, in other words, a higher-tier Nightmare Dungeon.
- Strengthen your team with Pop! Druid! This shapeshifting warrior is ready to battle in your Diablo IV collection
- Vinyl figure is approximately 5-inches tall
What Are Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4?
Nightmare Dungeons represent the main endgame activity in Diablo 4. They have the longest grind associated with them out of any endgame system, represented through tiers. These dungeons start at Tier 1 and low difficulty and scale up to Tier 100 for the highest possible difficulty.
They consume Nightmare Sigils to turn regular Dungeons into Nightmare Dungeons, with the tier of the Sigil corresponding to the dungeon tier. Each Nightmare Dungeon has a set of unique negative affixes, modifiers that skew the difficulty in some way. Invariably, each of these affixes makes it more difficult, as there are no “positive” affixes.
Once a specific Dungeon has turned into its Nightmare version, you open the Map and click on the Nightmare Dungeon to instantly teleport to its entrance.
You don’t have to run Nightmare Dungeons in a linear fashion. That means you don’t have to progress through the tiers sequentially. Instead, you can jump from, for example, Nightmare Dungeon Tier 1 to Tier 20 one after the other. It’s more important that your character is able to handle the increased tier and that you have the corresponding Nightmare Sigil to activate the dungeon.
Once you defeat the Nightmare Dungeon, you’ll get the invaluable Glyph XP for your Paragon Board, as well as loot rewards, all of which have a chance to help you improve your character build with the best items.
