Are you having trouble getting your enemies to freeze in Diablo IV? That’s an easy fix, and this article will guide you through the process. Soon, you will be freezing enemies left and right.
There are many status effects that you can leverage to your advantage in Diablo IV. The Freeze effect lets you crowd-control enemies, making them easy targets for your character to shatter. However, enemies can do the same to you, so you have to watch out for that as well. Getting enemies to become frozen is not an instantaneous occurrence, so you may be wondering how to get it to work. In this guide, we will explain how to apply the Freeze effect in Diablo 4.
How to Apply Freeze to Enemies in Diablo 4
Freeze or Frozen is a type of Status Ailment in Diablo 4 that can be applied through consecutive applications of the Chill effect through skills and sometimes basic attacks. The Chill effect causes the target to move and attack progressively slower with more consecutive Chill effects that it suffers. After several of them, depending on the enemy type and their Cold Resistance, they will become Frozen.
The best class to perform freeze attacks in Diablo 4 is the Sorcerer class. They have many spells, passive abilities, and even an Aspect that works with a combination of Chill and Freeze effects, making it easy to combo them into a full build.
To a lesser extent, the Rogue class can also play around with Chill and Freeze effects. However, they only have access to a few skills that can apply them to their enemies.
Both Chill and Freeze effects count as crowd-control for the purpose of triggering skills and effects that rely on it. For that reason, take that into account as well when you’re rounding out your build. Bear in mind that while Elite and other powerful enemies can become Frozen, they will gain the Unstoppable status after a few applications.
How To Avoid the Freeze Effect
While you can Chill and Freeze your enemies, some mobs in Lilith’s horde can do that to your character as well. If your character cannot Dodge chilling attacks, then your first line of defense is to build up Cold Resistance through your gear, elixirs, and passive skills. That will make you less susceptible to getting frozen. If you do get frozen and don’t have a way to counter it, you will simply have to wait for it to time out.
Another useful trick is to use an ability that makes you Unstoppable, which clears all movement-impairing effects and makes you immune to them for a short period. Every class except for the Necromancer has access to at least one such skill.
