Have you been stumped on how to save Nere in Baldur’s Gate 3, the True Soul stuck behind a wall of rubble? We’ll help you get him out of that pickle, so keep reading.
Playing through Baldur’s Gate 3, you will have the opportunity to explore a vast world and its many locations. Some paths will diverge, and you will have to make such a choice early on in Act 1. One path will lead you into the Underdark, where you’ll have the opportunity to save True Soul Nere from a cave-in to further your own schemes. Here’s how to do it.
How to save Nere in Baldur’s Gate 3?
True Soul Nere has found himself in a bit of a pickle. While excavating around Grymforge with a pack of slave Deep Gnomes, they have gotten themselves caved in on one side, with poison gas emitting on the other. It’s a race against time to get them out before they die, while seemingly indestructible rubble bars your way.
There are a few ways to save True Soul Nere from the cave-in:
- Blow it up with several Runepowder bombs and/or barrels.
- Find Philomeen and blow it up with Runepowder Vial.
Blow it up with Runepowder
The most straightforward way to free Nere is to scrounge around Grymforge looking for barrels of Runepowder and Runepowder bombs. There are several scattered about, but it will take a few in combination to do the trick.
Find Philomeen and the Runepowder Vial
If you speak with Deep Gnomes digging at the rubble, they can point you towards Philomeen. She’s one of their group who managed to escape with a potent supply of pure Runepowder. You can look for her and her stash, and by interacting with her you’ll be able to return with the Runepowder Vial. This item alone is enough to blow up the rubble by itself.
Do you have to save Nere?
Technically, no, you don’t have to save Nere. You can let him die by taking several Long Rests. However, there are further considerations before you take that course.
He is trapped with a group of Deep Gnomes that you may have picked up a quest to save, including their leader. If Nere dies, so will they. He will keep contacting you telepathically to tell you to hurry up.
After Nere is released, you can set up everything so that Duergar leave Grymforge altogether by allying yourself with Brithvar and his mercenaries before rescuing him. If he simply dies, they will stay there and potentially hamper your progress.
