Are you looking for a way to get to Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3? We’ll help you get into the vast, dark underground realm. Just bring torches.
What would a fantasy adventure be without delving into hidden, dark places? Baldur’s Gate 3 is set in the world of Faerûn, and underneath this world stretches a vast underground realm of Underdark. This infamous realm has been a part of nearly all games set within Forgotten Realms, and Baldur’s Gate 3 is no different. With a huge overworld map, the Underdark is almost just as big. So let’s find out how to get there.
All Entrances to Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are four different ways to access the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3. Bear in mind that this realm is on average more dangerous than its overworld counterpart. Prepare your party, because there are things worse than dragons in the deep dark.
The four locations that lead to the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3 are:
- Through the well in Blighted Village
- The Zhentarim Hideout
- Defiled Temple
- Portal within Overgrown Tunnel
Through the well and past the Phase Spider lair
Probably the first and easiest place to find the entrance to Underdark starts in Blighted Village. After clearing the area of goblins (or befriending them), you can jump into the well which leads to a side cave where Phase Spider Matriarch has her lair. After defeating her and going through, there’s a large pit where you can jump with the Feather Fall spell and wind up in the Underdark.
The Zhentarim Hideout
You can find the Zhentarim Hideout by travelling in the Risen Roads, north of the Blighted Village. Travel west to Waukeen’s Rest, a location caught in a conflagration. By dousing the flames, you can keep going until you find the hideout. The entrance is hidden in a small cabin, behind crates.
After entering the Zhentarim Hideout, travel to the back of the cave until you find a wolf. There’s an illusion of a wall behind him, through which you can get to the elevator. You’ll have to unlock it first, and then that elevator can take you to the Underdark.
Defiled Temple
After scouring the Goblin Camp, you can find the Defiled Temple behind a set of locked doors, past the quarters of Priestess True Soul Gut. On the temple floor is a puzzle that you have to solve to unlock the entrance to the Underdark. After solving the puzzle, a wall will reveal a pathway that leads down a ladder. Going down will take you to Selune Outpost in the Underdark.
The Portal within Overgrown Tunnel
The last and probably most difficult way to get into the Underdark is through the Overgrown Tunnel portal. It’s located within Hag Maryna’s lair, past an illusionary door. Continuing on past the illusion, you’ll have to face Masked Dummies, traps, and clouds of poison gas. Past the first cloud of gas, there’s another illusionary door along the cave wall.
However, to get past this door, you have to wear a Whispering Mask. But be wary, because the Hag can have control over you if you wear the mask while she’s still alive. After successfully passing through the illusion, you’ll end up in a passage that leads to a portal. This portal can take you to the Underdark.
Do you have to go to the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3?
No, you don’t have to go to the Underdark at all, there is an alternative route that you can take. However, that would rob you of all of the content within the underground realm. Several companion quests can be progressed within the Underdark, not to mention all the loot you can get. However, if you really don’t want to go through the Underdark, then you can take the Mountain Pass route instead.
