How To Get Rid Of Poison Clouds and Noxious Fumes in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 How to change difficulty

Poison Clouds are one of Baldur’s Gate 3’s most bothersome obstacles since not only do they obscure the area they span over, but they also inflict a disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks if one dares tread through them. Fortunately, you can easily navigate your way through these traps if you know the right spells to conjure.

How To Clear Poison Clouds in BG3

The easiest way of clearing out Poison Clouds in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to use the Gust of Wind spell, which pushes back the Poison Cloud just enough to clear up the path ahead of you.

However, if neither you nor your party members have any character that has access to the Gust of Wind spell, an equally effective method would be to use the Fog Cloud spell. This method allows you to replace the Poison Cloud with a Fog Cloud, which you can safely walk through.

Both these spells, nonetheless, require characters that belong to certain classes, preferably Druid, Wizard or Sorcerer. You could also use a Hammergrim Mist Amulet to cast the Fog Cloud spell if you happen to have one in your pocket.

Do The Poison Clouds Inflict Damage?

While Poison Clouds do debuff your character in certain ways, they ultimately don’t inflict any damage to your character. So, unless you’re attacking another character or pickpocketing NPCs in these clouds for some reason, you won’t find yourself at a considerable disadvantage while walking through a Poison Cloud.

So, we can safely say that you can always just walk through these pesky green mists, right? Unfortunately, that’s not the case, as Poison Clouds aren’t always what they seem. People often mistake Poison Clouds with the much deadlier Noxious Fumes, given their similar appearance, and use the terms interchangeably.

However, unlike the harmless clouds, Noxious Fumes deal damage to your character if you try to traverse it, and you can’t even remove it solely using spells. Fortunately, you can easily distinguish between the two green-hued gasses by hovering your cursor over them. You’ll also notice that Noxious Fumes, unlike Poison Clouds, are continuously emitted from a vent that is concealed somewhere beneath the fumes. You can also utilize various methods to free yourself from Noxious Fumes’ negative effects.

How to Get Rid of Noxious Fumes in Baldur’s Gate 3

Noxious Fumes are pretty deadly if you don’t know how to get rid of them. Here’s a little walkthrough to help you escape these poisonous obstructions:

  1. Choose the character with the highest Perception skill in your party.
  2. As you walk toward the fumes, you will detect the source if your Perception check is successful. In this case, all you have to do is throw a random item, like a stone, on the vent to stop the flow of the fumes.
  3. If your Perception check is unsuccessful, you can use any fire-based item, spell, or ability to set the fumes ablaze. After a bit of scrutiny, you should spot the vent, onto which you can throw a random item to block it.

And that’s it, your toxic worries are put to an end (hopefully).
