From Sony and Shift Up, Stellar Blade is a post-apocalyptic action-adventure game set to launch later this month on April 26. The playable demo is out now on PS5, introducing players to the game’s gritty, yet futuristic setting and extensive combat system. This has only helped to serve the hype backing its full release, though there’s some controversy regarding Stellar Blade’s exclusivity. While a future PC release remains up in the air, is there any hope that the game will be released on Xbox? Let’s break down what we know as we near Stellar Blade’s PS5 launch this month.
Is Stellar Blade Going to Be on Xbox?
Sony and Shift Up are moving forward with a PS5-exclusive release when it comes to Stellar Blade, one of the most hotly anticipated games so far this year. Unfortunately, this means those on Xbox won’t be able to get their hands on the game upon its release this April. Although, the story gets a bit more complicated when previous news of an Xbox release is called into question.
Back when the game was first announced in 2019, Stellar Blade was known as Project Eve. At the time, the development duo aimed for a multi-platform release across PlayStation and Xbox consoles. We’re not quite sure why, but there was a change of plans somewhere along the line. Soon after, the game was featured in 2021’s PlayStation Showcase, revealing its PS5-exclusive launch planned for this year.
That being said, there’s a lot left to the imagination when it comes to the decision for this change in direction. However, director Hyung Tae Kim has since commented on the new course, stating PS5 is simply the best option for Stellar Blade’s launch.
“I felt that I wanted to release a high-quality game on a single platform. And then, when it came time to decide on the platform, I determined that PlayStation 5 would offer the most optimal gaming experience.”

While we may never learn what caused the shift, it’s clear that Stellar Blade’s development team is confident in its decision to move forward with a PS5-exclusive launch. It’s possible that we may see the game released on additional platforms in the future, but there’s little to no indication that players’ hopes will pan out for now.
