How to get HDR 4K working on your PS4 Pro with full surround sound

From PlayStation Universe: "The PS4 HDR update is now available to download. If your AV receiver doesn’t support HDR there’s a workaround that will help you fix it."

Aenea2790d ago

"PS4 Pro"? It's not out yet *shakes head*

That deliberate title ‘error’ got our click though, didn’t it? Smh

Preying on our eagerness to learn more.

The easy workaround is to plug the PS4 into the back of a Xbox One S, works for upscaling 4K and HDR for all PS4 models!

You can't use the passthrough for 4K yet.

@cigi
Neither is the S. Just imagine all the games getting upscaled by two systems and even your TV. Almost as good as the real thing....haha. Funny how systems have been upscaling games for generations but now its wrong. ***rolls eyes***

PS. I forgot, the S can play native 4k Bluray movies and UPSCALE 720p and 900p games to 4k. The Pro is in trouble.

And suffer with the crushed blacks? Yuck.

All 4K TVs upscale to 4K. That goes for PS4 and XB1. You can't "upscale to HDR". That's not how it works.

I hadn't even thought about my AV receiver. So not only have I wasted £800 on a TV I only bought last year but also the £600 I spent on the AV receiver last year too :-( just my luck!

cd12790d ago

I'm in the same boat, just use ARC (like the article states) or use HDMI directly into the TV and optical to the Receiver.

jjb19812790d ago

That is what I am currently doing right now.

1nsomniac2790d ago (Edited 2790d ago )

I've just recently bought a GTX 1060 which I'm pretty disappointed with overall as well.

Should of just held off & I would of been happier putting it towards the Neo instead.

Seems like I'm throwing money away at the moment. Not good, annoyed at myself.

@1nsomniac

Buyers remorse, its easy done dude. I convinced myself I needed to build a new rig earlier this year, fortunately i was sober at the time. Parts picker, VISA card, beer and a can-do attitude don't mix...

Soldierone2789d ago

I'd take good audio over 4K right now anyways. The new Dolby tech is insane. Love my sound system, it sounds better than sitting in a theater.

Soldierone2789d ago

Does your TV need to be 4K to benefit from HDR? I have a LED TV with the color enhancements by Samsung which is supposed to enable deeper blacks or whatever.

Eonjay2789d ago

There are 1080p sets that support HDR. Just look your model up.

Soldierone2789d ago

I've been trying. I don't know where to look. I looked at the specs and all it says is that Samsung implemented color enhancements. The same model, but a couple inches bigger, got an HDR update.

Comin from someone who has worked in electronics retail for 15 years

Why do people insisit on hooking their audio systems in this old fashioned way?

HDMI out from PS4 Pro to your TV directly.

Optical out or HDMI Arc out of your TV into your audio unit.

Why on earth to people insist on daisy chaining their devices with a spaghetti bowl of cables, meaning you have to change audio sources everytime you change between your devices is beyond me.

PS Remote Play on Android TV OS devices & Chromecast with Google TV | PS5

PS Remote Play on Android TV OS devices offers you more ways to play your favorite PS5® and PS4™ games.

Cacabunga9h ago

i have a 4K chrome cast from some years ago, not this white one.
does it support remote play as well?
next question: does PS5 and the chromecast have to be connected to same network?

i will try later and update here if no one has an answer, so people benefit.
