E3 2016: Dead Rising 4 is only timed-exclusive to Microsoft for one year

Capcom is pleased to announce today that Dead Rising 4 will only be exclusive to Microsoft platforms for one year. According to Ryan Brown via Twitter.

I had a feeling that it might be timed. During the reveal it never said the Windows 10 & Xbox one "Exclusive" like other games did. Which honestly is fine with me. this game is like a reimagining of the first and PS players did not get the first but they did get the second one. Now is their chance to play the awesomeness that was the first game and play with additional characters.

Then again, if it isn't coming to PS4 then they probably mean Steam. That is what happened to DR3. It would still be a multiplat release as Steam does not require W10 so PC players without W10 would be able to get it.

Difference is exactly that line..."First on consoles for PS4" plainly insinuates it is coming to other consoles in the future, calling something "Exclusive" or "Exclusive Holiday 2016" is an obvious attempt to confuse gamers.

Also, notice that MS has stayed entirely silent on the status of the game, just like they did w/ RotTR. They know the chatter is out there that it is in exclusive because they've insinuated as much...they are leaning into that conversation & making it all murky.

MS is working to keep gamers in the dark about their software, Spencer literally said last year he "didn't want to do any more timed deals" & yet here we are...not only that, but here we are again w/ MS obscuring the truth in order to confuse gamers into buying a box they may not need. Been saying this game would not be a full console exclusive since the presser & Ive been berated & downvoted into oblivion solely for applying logic & history to a situation that is being purposefully obscured yet again by MS. Ultimately it's all good though, MS marquee holiday exclusive this year will bolster Sony's holiday lineup next year, and still be nestled among year round full exclusive experiences unavailable on other platforms now & in perpetuity. Thanks for the correction, I had realized that too looking through this thread after I had posted it. In that instance the issue was obviously with MS, not TGG. My apologies to that site, in this particular instance they were just reporting the actual news. I honestly thought there was no way that MS could've officially released misleading ad assets like that, but here we are I suppose.

I wonder how MS can pull this kind of thing & just see nothing behind it....same thing happened when MS was under investigation over antitrust laws & monopolistic practices, just got dismissed '& swept under the rug. I had dead rising 2 on ps3, and in my opinion, the first few hours are awesome, but it's the honeymoon effect. I loved my first playthrough but it didn't take long at all, and my next few playthroughs quickly went from fun to tedious. The weapon creating was fun until you start making weapons that are way too powerful. If you're wondering why that's a problem, it because it almost immediately killed the fun factor. It was too easy to kill the hoards of zombies and essentially turned them into mindless walking boxes that barely try to kill you.
It's a fun game, just not one you'll be booting up again after you beat it and some other new game gets released.

You are right about one thing though, Dead Rising isn't a huge game. I'll definitely rent it for my PS4 next year after I beat the fully exclusive Days Gone, just like I rent RotTR this year after I finish the fully exclusive Uncharted 4.

Well, DR1 was an exclusive. DR2 (and the spin-offs of DR2) were multi. DR3 back to exclusive. So, if DR4 isn't it's not too much of a surprise. Although, I do think it's quite stupid of MS to let this franchise go, but they already did the same thing with Mass Effect. Sony fans forget how lucky they were to even experience those games outside of Xbox or PC.

Seems like MS believes that the illusion of exclusivity is just as important as the actual kind. It's the quick fix vs. The long game, which is what bit them by the end of the last console gen & set them up for second place during this one. They pushed the 360 out the door without wi fi without Hdmi & without an hd media solution. They rushed the gun & pushed tons of boxes that failed on users. Then they pushed out games like ME & Bioshock & Limbo as semi exclusives only for those games to go on & bolster Sony's lineup of full exclusives. For every game MS is shelling out money for timed exclusive status, Sony is developing one of their own that is fully exclusive. When that timed window runs out, Sony has 2 games to MS' 1. It really sounds nonsensical to gamers but in a business sense MS seems to be more concerned with today's quick buck than tomorrow's lifelong franchise. Probably why MS push the same 3-4 series every single year.

Actually a very smart move by MS. Instead of funding the full game, they get exclusive rights for a year at a fraction of the cost...then after a year when the deal is up....Scorpio comes out....so for anyone with the option...there is literally NO reason to wait to play it on any other console. The whole idea of "waiting for a year for a more optimized version" looks ridiculous now. Why not buy the game on Dec 6th, play it for a year on PC and/or X1 if you want...then you ALREADY have the game when Scorpio comes out...which will be the most optimized and best performing console version as well...so waiting that whole year is a massive waste of time unless you simply don't have a PC or Xbox (of any kind). MS actually locked this title up without paying full price to do so.

First off, how you would know how much a deal like this actually costs MS? It is very likely that for the price of 1 year timed exclusivity on a well know proven franchise from a third party, MS could've funded their own first party exclusive from the ground up. At the very least, the combined funds spend for bragging rights on RotTR & DR4 could've created an actual exclusive first party new ip. Either way, I find it funny that a gamer is praising business deals that do nothing for them, and actively hurt their potential for more actual games.

It's never about "waiting a year for an optimized version"...no one is silly enough to hold off for the incremental advantage that would come if they have the option to get the game early & they are interested in it. MS doesn't get timed exclusives for software sales, they get them to try to push their box to consumers choosing between a PS4 & an XBO and to also try to sway Ps4 owners to buy an XBO. Issue is it is proven not to work. Gamers are too well informed for those tactics to work anymore. No one is going to drop $300 for the right to play a game a year early when they know they can just hold off.

Look at the sales of RotTR for proof that these deals don't pay off for anyone. They are petty & anti gamer. If you support this kind of stuff on any game, and the shady tactic of trying to obscure the true status of the game, you aren't a gamer, you are simply an MS shill...although in your case, that much is already plainly understood for anyone around these parts.

Seems like PS4 gamers are the ones who actually win in these situations, because this year I'll be playing UC4 AND RotTR, and next year I'll be playing Days Gone AND DR4, whereas XBO only gamers only get 2 games, I get 4. If MS' money is going towards funding this game, thanks for the extra games MS! Sucks for Capcom & CD though because I would've been a day one retail buyer, but now I'm just a Redbox rental. Figured companies would learn by now, but they have a rude awakening in store when these games come wildly under target. Even if this does come to the PS4 a year later, it's going to suffer. They can even give all the dlc along with it and I'm almost sure it wont' sell well.

If there is one thing the last gen taught us, is that games don't normally sell well when you give gamers something x amount of time later than the other platforms. And the sales showed it.

Hell, Rise of the Tomb Raider is set to come to the PS4 this holiday. But you have to ask yourself, just how many people will buy it? Don't get me wrong, some people will buy it. But that number will only be a tiny fraction of the amount of people that WOULD have bought it had it came out with the XB1 version.

And I know someone will say I'm a fanboy for this next part, but it's my opinion. If I were Sony, I wouldn't waste one penny advertising ROTR. I would let Square Enix just put their game out and let it sell whatever amount it does. There are a lot of games coming out and there's no reason to put effort in promoting a game the competition had a year prior

The only reason they made it an exclusive is because Sony has been doing so many exclusives (that look brilliant by the way) that they didn't really have a choice. It's like get Playstation that has everything, or Xbox that has everything minus these amazing PS4 exclusives (and plus Quantum Break I guess). You can see they're only really doing this half heartedly too, as it's still coming out for Playstation, just a year later. There are reasons why, but Microsoft have always been more orientated around game sales than console sales (not out of the goodness of their hearts I'm sure, but we can all agree this is the better way), but if Sony keeps on pushing for more exclusives, Microsoft will eventually be forced to do the same, with potentially catastrophic consequences. You'll have to decide in between games as well as consoles.

So it has now been confirmed Dead Rising has a Windows 10 90 day exclusive (so it can appear on Steam around March) and XB1 exclusive (so it can appear on PS4 and NX Christmas 2017).

I suppose late is better than never for PS4/NX and Steam fans I guess. I think I might just wait the few months and get the Steam version. Even though I don't have much issues with Windows 10 store. I rather have it on steam.
