Razer is Full of Crap

Not long ago, Razer released a website called PCGamingIsNotDead.com. No, don't bother copy-pasting the URL, it no longer works, instead going straight to the company website. This site had a voice, praising PC gaming, and condemning console gaming as "conformist" junk.

Interesting enough, they're soon releasing a new product called the "Razer Blade". Surely they're committed to what they said, and now have something to save us from the conformist evils of console gaming. Wait......they do, right??

Maybe not.

The Razer Blade covers almost every level of conformity in its path.

First of all, what is the Razer Blade? It's a gaming LAPTOP. That's right; LAPTOP. What's conformist about a laptop? It's pretty much the dominant consumer computer these days...purchased for the convenience of mobility and yet not often used outside the house by the average consumer because it's mostly used for facebook and has an awful battery life. But the Blade caters to the mobile craze regardless. Why opt for more power when you can get the popular mobility that you'll hardly use?

But it's a gaming laptop! What about the console-shattering games? Well, most footage shown in Razer videos have been predominantly World of Warcraft, the most popular MMO of today, recently gone "Free"-2-play. Sure, now they're showing Battlefield B-role "playing" on the Blade, but the videos are still mostly chuck full of low-end games.

To top it all off, the screen uses a resolution of 1024 × 600.
(EDIT: I apologize, this is not true. Originally, I had the "SwitchBlade" and "Blade" confused, and I had to fix a lot of information. This was unfortunately something I forgot to delete)

All of this for the not-so-mainstream price of $2800.

Think about it.....they targeted the crowd that hates console gaming. Who do think of when you hear that? People who are interesting in a gaming laptop? Not me.....I think of big time PC gamers who actually know about hardware and hate "console limitations"

Did Razer really think this angle of attacking console gaming and its gamers was going to get the right audience to buy this? Heck, if anything, I'd think console gamers would be more likely to try this out......but not for 28 Benjamins. Nor after being insulted.

Your advertisement campaign is a joke, Razer. Stop attacking gamers outside of your product line, and start creating better product ideas.

This laptop really is the biggest piece of crap ever made for $2800. Obviously, any body who buys a laptop for the purpose of gaming needs their head checked, but a $2800 with a res of 1024x600? I haven't played at that resolution since 2000, when I was 7!

Like I said, anybody who buys a laptop for gaming is a downright noob. To buy a laptop with comparable performance (not spec, performance - laptop parts perform considerably worse than desktop pargs with the same spec)to a $1500 desktop will set you back at least $3000. And for $3000 you will get a 5kg 17+ inch laptop that isn't even portable. Honestly, you would be much better of buying a $1500 desktop and a seperate $500 laptop that is actually portabel for your non gaming needs.

The screen is 17.3" with a resolution of 1920x1080.
I'm not a fan of Razer, but SilentNegotiator is the one who's full of crap.

Specs of the comp

2.8GHz Intel Core i7 2640M Processor
8GB DDR3 RAM with a 320GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GT555M GPU (2GB dedicated VRAM)

I think the author should do a little research b4 writing so much. 1027x600 on a 17 inch ? how long has it been since u buy a laptop lol.

Btw its OP because they took a shot with the changing interface on the side on the keyboard which changes with every game. If there where more like this it would be cheaper but since its the first of its class they can put a really big price tag on it.

theonlylolking4636d ago

For a $2800 it better make me some bacon.

SilentNegotiator4636d ago

For $2800, it better do my taxes.

Solidus187-SCMilk4636d ago

for 2800$, it better massage my junk while I play it.

But really, I thought that was expensive, but I had no idea about the screen. Honestly, that is a horrible screen, are you sure that is correct even??? I almost cant believe that it is that low res for such a high price. Even for a 500$ laptop that screen would be complete garbage. My cheapo netbook has 1024x600 screen and its only 10inches. LOL

What a garbage laptop for 2800, with a netbook resolution. How big is this screen???? It has to be bigger than my netbook right?? So I would imagine that the same resolution would look even worse on a screen bigger than my 10inch netbook.

Im pretty sure that any laptop has a screen that has a better resolution then this crap for 2800.

at least it will be able to max out games easier if its max resolution is the same as my netbook I guess, LOL.

I guess it's made for people who don't want to build their own PC. They might be outside the home a lot, so I guess they could use it if they had the money.

mastiffchild4636d ago

"if they had the money"? Could they get someone to build them a great PC for WAY,WAY less anyway? ASND have enough to buy a lappy with similar specs to this too? If I had the coin I'd be upgrading my rig, again, and uf I needed a laptop I'd still be looking at doing something a lot better specs wise than this mess of consumerism gone mental.

I, also, don't like the way the ads were pushing this by adding to PC elitism. I always have a good rig AND consoles because, to m, conformism doesn't matter and I go wherever the games and the series of games that I love are available. nothing else matters too much-it';s great to have all the bells and whistles of PC, sure, but unless you start getting every Sony and MS and Ninty franchise that I also love gracing my rig I'll be console gaming as well-whether that makes my precious PC bred hands melt or not!!

Razer need a slap if they think many are gonna fall for this crap-unless they imagine the weird fugue that causes sane folk to buy iPads and iPhones for gaming is actually catching and spreading to other brands. For that to happen Razer, somehow, need this thing to become "cool" , though, and that ain't likely.

MidnytRain4636d ago

They might not know anyone good with computers.

El_Colombiano4636d ago

I need to see proof that this laptop is only 1024x600. That is the biggest joke of the decade if true.

Brownghost4636d ago

Wow I rather buy a 17 in MacBook than this, this is why I don't buy name brand gaming computers I always buy custom really does the CEO want to make a huge profit with something that small
