Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - No Beta Plans; A Beta 'Is Not Practical' For Treyarch

DSOGaming writes: "And since Black Ops 2 has officially been revealed, a lot of questions arose for PC gamers. The most important one - in our opinion - was whether there would be a beta phase for Treyarch’s upcoming game or not. After all, a beta would give gamers the first look on the game and would certainly affect and improve the overall gameplay, right? Well, apparently Treyarch doesn’t feel that way."

Does Treyarch really need a beta when it's the same engine, if people want to know what it's going to play like-

Pop in Black Ops 1- it's not going to play much different from that game when it's using the same engine.

Was just to say the same thing.. if you want the beta of Blops 2 go play the original Blops or MW3.

Crazyglues4807d ago (Edited 4807d ago )

Looking @ the Disagrees

wait people really think it's going to play completely different from Black-ops 1 really???

So MW3 does not play nothing like MW2..?

TheModernKamikaze4807d ago

it's They're taste. We can't change them.

annus4807d ago

You must have beta and demo confused. A demo is to try the game, a beta is to test the game for server problems, bugs, how powerful everything is, etc.

t0mmyb0y4807d ago

Same CoD engine for years, yet there's always launch problems lol. How does that even make sense?

Fishy Fingers4807d ago

Numbers, no other game comes close to having to handle that amount of traffic through their system, or just the sheer scale of people actively trying to break it.

BinCs4807d ago

What does the same engine have to do with multiplayer mechanics? Give reasons that actually make sense.

WeskerChildReborned4807d ago

Well glitches from Black Ops won't be identical to glitches in Black Ops 2 so i think they should have a beta so if their are glitches or imbalances with weapons or killstreaks, they can fix them before the game releases.

Prepare for many patches and overpowered weapons

WeskerChildReborned4807d ago

That's basically why they would need a beta hell even good games get betas.

Fishy Fingers4807d ago

Unless there's any radical feature changes, or they've messed with the online setup/netcode, don't think there's much a short beta could tell them that they don't already know.

AtomicGerbil4807d ago

No beta suggests there are no significant improvements to test. Another CoD I won't buy.

Paradicia4807d ago (Edited 4807d ago )

Just because there isn't a beta, doesn't mean their not doing internal tests themselves. Not every game needs a beta. Look at Halo 4 as an example of this. 343 are spending more time polishing and fixing the game internally. Betas take up huge chunks of precious development time. Think of the circumstances, before jumping to conclusions.

Edit: Disagree all you want, it's just common knowledge.

Edit 2: With all the cynicism thrown around N4G these days it's hard to tell who's serious and who's just a troll.

AtomicGerbil4807d ago (Edited 4807d ago )

Calm down, anyone would think I just shat in your handbag. Besides it was a throw away comment, if it was deathly serious I would have offered more substance.

FYI the disagree isn't mine.

Edit: I not even sure who's worse on this site, the CoD lovers or the haters. You have one side that can't acknowledge anything decent about the series, then the other side with rabid loyalty that are like a pack of wolves against anything negative.

Being stuck in the middle I still have a soft spot for CoD but the same fundamental flaws exist with every iteration that never gets addressed despite claims by IW, Treyarch or Activision to the contrary. This is why I haven't bought one since MW2, yet I will follow the news and comment in the hope that one day these issues are addressed and I can jump back on board.

Xbox $70 billion bet paid out

fr0sty685d ago

Guess that's what happens when there's no good new games to play...

4Sh0w685d ago (Edited 685d ago )

Well regardless of exclusives, or whatever else there is to play on Xbox or ps, CoD has has still been the top selling game on ps platform since forever also.....so no surprise that the most popular game franchise on any console could easily have a revival due to servers coming back online...this is just credit to xbox backwards compatibility & thats good thing for Xbox gamers.

wiz7191685d ago

@Frosty orrrr maybe it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to go back to the peak of the series .. and it’s beem great lol

mkis007685d ago

It's going to take 10 years for xbox to generate that much profit...

Rhythmattic685d ago

Why worry when they have OS, Server and Background Data in their hands...
Gaming is just the small piece, at the top left in a few K piece jigsaw.

EasilyTheBest685d ago

If you buy a house with cash for 1 million dollars you still own the house. Microsoft don't need to make the money back.

Rhythmattic683d ago

But its not money back, its about how it goes missing.

jznrpg685d ago

Shooters is what Xbox people play most of the time and that’s about it by the numbers and sales of games.

shinoff2183686d ago

Atkeast older gamers nostalgia is good. Jeez.

Jin_Sakai686d ago

Mostly because the new CoD games are garbage. The old games were much better.

Rutaprkl685d ago

Agree 100%. Cod 4, WaW, Black ops 1 & 2, those were the days.

Rhythmattic685d ago

For MP, Unreal tournament , QIII Arena (loved the UT mod) FTW!

RaidenBlack685d ago

Unreal Tournament and Quake III were simply amazing ... CoD's and CoD-likes' rise killed the arena shooter popularity ...
Unreal Tournament 2004 is my favorite in the series.
Didn't enjoy Unreal Tournament III, Quake Champions that much.
Too bad Epic cancelled Unreal Tournament 2014 becoz of Fortnite

Rhythmattic684d ago (Edited 684d ago )

I got hooked on the QIII Urban Terror mod (and my work colleagues I introduced them to)... LAN Sessions at the closing of the doors at work, into the night , sinking beers and eating pizza..... Good times.

thesoftware730686d ago

Wow, good games never get old I guess.

CoD will always be a beast of a franchise, and how awesome is it that you can just boot it up or pop it into your Xbox and play, MS BC is really a neat feature.

CrimsonWing69686d ago

Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.

1Victor685d ago

@crimson:” Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.”
I agree it’s worthy at the start of the generation when there’s few new generation games but halfway through the generation it’s not a feature.
Now it’s good that this game is finding a renewed life for its fan but it shows a mayor flaw in new games release when a close decade old game is toppling the charts

CrimsonWing69685d ago

I don't know if I understand what you mean. It's a feature regardless of the time into the generation.

Let's take Armored Core 6 for example. Let's say I'm interested in checking out the previous Armored Core games, sure would be nice if I could play them on my current-gen console.

We're about 3 years into current-gen and old games are hitting in the top 5 for sales charts in the month.

I do get where you're coming from with older games possibly being better than the newer games, but the feature stays the feature. I can only speak for myself, but when there's a lull in game releases or nothing great is out, I like to go back to old titles. It's just nice to not have to have a bunch of consoles out to do so.

I think moving forward it'll be less and less of an issue as like with the PS5 you can access most all of the PS4 games, but I like going back to PS1 and PS2. Would be awesome to kind of make backwards compatibility a prioritized feature moving forward. Hell, Sony was the first to implement it.
