PushSquare: "Video games can be quite immature. Even when they come attached with mature age ratings, the content inside can often feel like the opposite. Enormous guns, vats of gore and over-sized breasts are not necessarily indicative of what it means to be mature, in fact they are the antithesis. Few games capture the essence of adulthood. For all its faults, Heavy Rain came close. Quantic Dream’s thriller opus tackled themes of love and fatherhood that few games dare to touch, and while the studio might not always have succeed, at least it dared to try."
Plenty of unforgettable games have completely messed up their players throughout the years, all the way back from the PS1 days to the dark recesses of the modern internet.
Deadly Premonition is a pretty weird game, but all of these absolute oddities are even weirder.
Paul writes: "Games can be many different things to different people. The subject of this Looking Back article is something a little different however, as it deals with infidelity and the fallout that comes the way of the straying main character. Intrigued? Well, come with me to the weird world of 2011’s Catherine!"
Cant wait. I also thougt the feel of heavy rain was geared towards the older gamer. Hope more get made
He's spot on when he says that guns and gore, while should only be presented to adults, aren't adult themes. All of that is really just playing to our inner child. The guns, gore, explosions and boobs fantasy is predominantly the fantasy of boys, say, early teen boys.
Now, I'm not attacking people who like that sort of thing as I include myself in that category. All I'm saying is that this fantasy, while it continues in to adulthood, is developed from an early age so in no way can it be considered mature.
Mature themes are themes that you can only experience when you're an adult. Themes that are only relevant to adults and ones that only adults can relate to. Although this doesn't mean that the game can't at least be enjoyed by anyone else of course but just that adults might get more out these games. I hope we see more games like this in the future.
Is this a downloadable game or disc based? If it's a download and at a decent price I'll get it but I won't cough up 60 bucks for it.
