Sony PS Vita Dev Site Uncovered

Recent rumors pointing towards the official name of the NGP indicated that the device would be called the PlayStation Vita, soon after, images of the handheld clearly showed the name. To strengthen the case even further, a development website from Sony for the name Vita has been uncovered. (NGP, PS Vita, PSP)

Sounds like a new health "Vita-min" product.
miyamoto  +   1527d ago

Yeah if Vita is true, Sony just lost a lot of "cool points".

But any way remember that it was rumored that the PSMove was called "Arc" & Microsoft had a device called "Arc" too. and was actually the Sony Ericsson Xperia "Arc"?

Now its the NGP is rumored to be called "Vita" & Microsoft had Windows "Vista"?

whats in a name? does it change how the system plays? NO it just identity's the product nothing more nothing less STOP COMPLAINING
nikola987  +   1527d ago
Just be real, how would you tell someone that vita is hardcore console? xD
lil Titan  +   1527d ago
i wouldnt, the system cant be "hardcore" i think its the "games" i play that are "hardcore"
HolyOrangeCows  +   1527d ago
It's playstation related, so they have to make a stink about it.
KiasuKiasiMan  +   1527d ago
Well it seems like that's a real SCE site. SO I guess Vita is real? Or maybe a codename. I mean the Move was called PlayStation Arc at one point of time, so it may change. http://www.whois.net/whois/...
blumatt  +   1527d ago
That's what I was thinking. Since the Move was called Arc before, the NGP is being called Vita for now, but will be re-named to PSP2 later. I can't see it not being called PSP2. It would confuse consumers to not keep using a numerical naming system like they have all this time. (e.g., PS1>PS2>PS3)

Yeah, that's true. But, I still hope it's just called PSP2. It would make more sense and be more recognizable to consumers. "Oh, I'll get little Jimmy the new PSP2 since he's got a PSP" Vita just doesn't have the same ring to it. lol But either way, whatever it's called, it's going to be the defining portable multimedia/gaming device out when it comes out.

i dont think the NGP would have to codenames especially when the latest one comes a few days before E3
nikola987  +   1527d ago
@blumatt: And how would you explain to someone that PSP2>PSP3000. Imagine some kid that rapes parents for new PSP2 and they buy him "1500x better" console aka PSP3000 :P
nirwanda  +   1527d ago
@nikola i think thats the main reason why the 3ds is flopping, there are so many different ds's now that they probably dont realize the 3ds is a big step up in power as well as a 3d display.

sony will have been watchin closely and made sure everyone would be able to see straight away its a new console.

Well it's not the very first Sony product with absurd name. Sony Ericsson Vivaz sounds similar. It's probably short for something...

Playstation Vitamin. XD

I need to take my daily vitamins everyday now. lol

Vita sounds too short, like something is missing.

I'm already used to the name. At least it's better than 'Wii'.

Its not a phone, therefore whats the point of having this over an Iphone/Ipad? The honeycomb is useless. I hope Nintendo comes out hard this year cause Sony has already got me disappointed. Even if they bring out new IP's, I'm not impressed by this generation of games anymore than last generations games. Only thing that saved this gen was the online aspect and causal games like angry birds.

Are you serious?
I'm not even going to get into how biased you sound from the start, but saying Angry Birds saved the generation? You have no idea how asinine you sound right now.
DaTruth  +   1526d ago
3DS is also not a phone! So whats the point of having 3DS over an Iphone/Ipad?
Rettom  +   1526d ago
Dude, Angry Birds sucks. Ads, crap physics, ridiculous to get 3 stars, etc...
Rahim92  +   1527d ago
Vita isn't a bad name but whenever i think of it my mind goes towards Wheat. Probably because Vita sounds like a name for a cereal.
christoph203  +   1527d ago
Its a good name, you can see sony are trying too compete with the mobile gaming market something the 3ds isnt capable of.
Godmars290  +   1527d ago
Meh, people bitched about Kentic from Natal. They'll get use to this.
kesvalk  +   1527d ago
so, basically, sony playstation life?

hope this don't confuse anyone...
NiceGuy192  +   1527d ago
when nintendo first announced the "wii", I was like what the hell but now I say it on regular basis without thinking about it at all, so I hope the same thing will apply to this one. And even if it doesn't, I don't think I'll be bothered by it, as people will probably just be saying "psv" anyway. Like "check out my new psv, it's amazing!"
FlareDReborn  +   1527d ago
PSVita (PSV)

Its the 5th version of the PSP so why not use call it the PSV lol.
blackburn10  +   1527d ago
PSV. Why not? We have gotten used to every other weird name in the tech universe so far, so I am not sure what is the big deal about calling it Vita. Playstion Life. Playstion Lifestyle. I have already gotten used to it. Sound classy. Where was the laughter and the poking fun when Apple came up with IPOD then IPHONE then IPAD? Really?
zackacloud  +   1527d ago
I Guess it so weird when i ask someone i want playstation vita 3g edition ( with cola loool )

So i think a lot of people will say psp2 or the new psp
likedamaster  +   1526d ago
PSP 2 or nothing.
