The “new style” puzzle game in Bubble Bobble Double is a good play – much more so than the port of the arcade classic. From the neo-retro visuals to the great pacing of the puzzle action, Taito’s fresh Bubble Bobble is a great little game. Even if it’s only half of Bubble Bobble Double, it’s wholly fun.
TAITO Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd., has announced the worldwide release of Bubble Bobble Double for iPhone and iPod touch. True to the name, Bubble Bobble Double delivers both a faithful adaptation of the classic 1986 Bubble Bobble arcade hit as well as an all-new action game conceived especially for touch screen play.
Taito brought Bust-A-Move to the iPhone, and now it’s Bubble Bobble with a new twist on the classic gameplay. The original game is included, but the main part is the new mode just for the multi-touch device. There are all types of enemies coming at you, and you need to encapsulate them in bubbles, and then pop the bubbles to get rid of them.
When TAITO, the publisher behind the amazing reimagining Space Invaders Infinity Gene released Bubble Bobble Double, our hearts were instantly aflutter. All the screens made it look like this could be a brand new experience that rivalled that of their earlier Space Invaders success. Looks, however, can be deceiving.
