Rise of the Ronin – What Happened?

Rise of the Ronin hasn't quite stuck the landing like Team Ninja's past games. Where exactly have things not worked out for it?

Honestly it's a good game to unwind, a bit checklist mission like assassin's creed but plays better. Perfect for just chilling at home on sunday. It also plays a bit like sekiro but with difficulty settings, so people who were turned off by sekiro's difficulty but still curious about its gameplay should like this game.

I’m really enjoying the game itself, but their engine isn’t really fit for task for an open world game, so performance and visuals are pretty subpar. Put it on performance mode and sit a little further back from the tv would be my recommendation 😂

Bad, no. But it was inevitably going to get compared against Ghost of Tsushima, which started out a PS4 game and arguably looks and runs much better than Rise. But Team Ninja is a “second party” studio, and I believe this is their first open world title, so it’s maybe not a fair comparison

This is how I feel about every open world game from the last 5 years. They're all the same. Camp clear out, fetch quests, identical skill trees, collectables.... It's all just become very Samey. Ubisoft gets the flack whilst most of the industry does the exact same as them. Open world games need a complete redo in structure

The game is not average looking. The visuals of Ghost of Tsushima looks a generation ahead of Rise of the Ronen.

Let's be honest here, DD2 and RoR visually are lacking. Ghost spoiled us. The problem is visually they are average for a late-gen PS5 AND the frame rate is not close to 60fps.

both Horizon games have among the top best graphics/visuals out there on all platforms. not that many games would stand a chance compared to them.

Agreed, Dogma 1 graphics are not far off 2. The color vibrancy and lighting is piss poor in both games. Ghost and Horizon are world class, but I guess they have massive art teams supported by top first party Sony dev support.

The video pretty much sums up why this game did not take off.

Did Team Ninja even bother looking at other open world games like Ghost of Tsushima, The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2 and what made them so great? How alive and organic those worlds felt. Go play those open world games, then go play Rise of Ronin. The world feels lifeless and static.

Sadly and this is not being harsh on the developers, but some developers just do not have the passion, creativity to make an open world game. They swung way above their weight.

Ghost of tsushima open world was pretty standard generic ubisoft copy paste ? just bandit camps, foxes and armor upgrades and repeat. Sounds like revisionism to call its open world good now, it was very critized back when it released

Being honest about my opinion, I feel the game is nothing special at all, but it isn’t a bad game, and it darn sure isn’t a game to pay 70$ for. Luckily for me, I have the game for free from a friend. The game is your typical resource gathering, side quest, almost souls like game. If you’ve never played a decent hack n slash, or souls like game this will be a new experience for you.

Ill grab it for cheap eventually to check it out, but the game always looked a bit janky to me. In what feels like a decently crowded space (open world/samurai themed), it just never screamed "must buy" like other recent titles did

I have heard people call spiderman 2, spider-Mid 2. I have heard people say Bulgers Gate 3 is woke trash. I will literally only look at reviews to make sure the game is not a broken mess, see them say the game is disappointing trash, then go and buy the game anyway. We cant take the reviews too seriously, unless its a reviewer that consistently shares your taste in games.

Of course we know where Ghost Of Tsushima stands, graphically and gameplay wise you can tell the care and passion sucker punch put into it, I'm over the whole comparison thing, yeah team ninja should utilize console power more but ronin still looks like a fun game I don't listen to reviews because it's basically someone else opinion I buy games I wana enjoy there's plenty I recently bought that had mix reviews and they're some of my most favorites now, will get ronin soon, also it's crazy how rockstar is bout to really come back from the bs they were on all these years and still show how open world should be done 🤦🏾 the past couple years devs have not been trying in the open world genre, there is so much you should be able to do instead of just free roam with pretty graphics
