Edge trying to be edgey, its good to start christmas with a chuckle

coolbeans171d ago (Edited 171d ago )

So much of this list seems incredibly safe and expected. What are you talking about? lol

Angyobangyo171d ago

Why, because your favorite games didn't make their list?

SyntheticForm171d ago

Oh I know why you're upset.

Anyway, this is a great list. Now I really have to check out Planet of Lana.

"PlayStation Game of the Year: Humanity"

Really? Why not pick an actual exclusive, it's on PC aswell.

I mean I have my thoughts on Spiderman 2 but I do find they tried their best here to just completely miss it out.

So Zelda TotK can literally be samey compared to BotW but Spiderman 2 seems to get flack for roughly the same thing. Typical, the "Nintendo Effect".

Simundo170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Spider-man 2 is a template Sony has used for many open world games - Spider-man, Miles Morales, HZD, HZD - Forbidden West, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima. It's a template already very derivative of Ubisoft games and many other games.

BoTW with it's physics systems and level of environmental interactivity genuinely brought something fresh to open world gaming. TOTK improved and added more ideas to that concept than all those Ubisoft clones together over the span of over a decade.

No problem if anyone wants to label both games copy and paste. But SM2 is copy and paste ad Infinitum whereas ToTK is just the once.

anast171d ago

They are hard on games but give two copy paste games high marks...

nommers170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

It's more that they're hard only on games that aren't nintendo while nintendo games get free passes.

juniorpop170d ago

Edge only has PC and Nintendo Switch in the house, quite evident from their selection of games

Simundo170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Seven of the games listed are available on PS and six are on Xbox so they're well represented. I'm guessing you're alluding to exclusives but neither Sony or MS had a great year there.

Sony just released SM2 and many of Xbox's first party games didn't quite deliver like Starfield and Redfall. Hi Fi Rush I personally liked a lot but in such a strong year I'm not surprised if it doesn't make many peoples top ten.
