It really puts into perspective how crazy expensive those AAA games are. Needing to sell 5.5 million units just to break even is no joke. Sure, for a big shot like Spider-Man, it's doable, but no wonder game publishers are kinda skittish about diving into new ideas and IPs these days.

If i personally had a studio i would make all my games cel shaded to be timeless and cost effective. that would be my strategy. Its either that or just make mid tier games.

It also shows why others like square enix only has FF as big budget while there others games get leftover budget. We already why Nintendo sticks to old tech etc. One thing we all wanna know is can the cost get lower.

Funny fact. Spider-man IP only became this "big shot" that can sell +10-20M units after Marvel Spiderman. Insomniacs games got more sales than every other spiderman game put together, Spider-man only became a juggernaut under playstation.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the huge push for super-heroes and Marvel in particular that was caused by the movie industry has something to do with it. But what do I know.
