Good for them

We are in the age of the Worst. Businessmen. Ever.

period.

porkChop202d ago (Edited 202d ago )

CD Projekt owns GOG. They're basically raking in cash from digital distribution. How can their dev teams not be safe from layoffs?

SimpleSlave202d ago

Because the more the company make the more the ones at the top want to make. So they just Layoff people and pass on their work to the rest. Thus making the devs overworked, tired, mentally and physically exhausted and afraid to do or say anything because the can be next. And they know there is a plethora of up and comers that would do anything to get their job.

Hope this helps them turn it around.

RedDevils202d ago

Hope all of the dev drop them at the same time.

Double_O_Revan202d ago

It's not always that simple. The biggest problem with these stories is, people just hear the word 'layoffs' and assume they just went and fired a bunch of random people for no reason. When in reality, it's cutting back unnecessary positions after a game is completed. Usually, this means play testers or other departments they don't have a current use for.

Cyberpunk is now wrapping up and they currently don't have another project in that stage of development. Witcher 4 is easily a few years away. So all the play testers they had working on 2077 are no longer needed. A lot of the time those jobs are contract work anyway. In a perfect world, they would try and keep everyone, maybe move them to another department. But if your only skill is play testing or art design, what are they supposed to do with you?

I don't agree with the practice at all, and I'm glad they are deciding to unionize. But the reality is, game development takes a long LONG time and it could be years at a studio before certain positions, or at least the number of positions in a department are needed again. You can't keep people around you can't use.

Because only shareholders profit matter in our current system. Sounds like we need a change

anast202d ago

That union leader is counting their cash as we speak. Sadly, it's the only option unless the workers actually revolted, but no one wants that for very good reasons.

This is what Cyberpunk failure does to your company....

The only PlayStation dev I care about tbh.

Cacabunga16h ago

Hopefully doesn’t take them a complete gen to release it

TheColbertinator11h ago

Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

Stopac9h ago

I too like to look for things in the wrong places.

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

banger881d 14h ago

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb19811d ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein23h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.

Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition Reneges on Promised Content Behind $250 Price Tag

The new Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition has the community in an outrage after promising exclusive access to the new PvE mode for $250 USD.

Christopher1d 13h ago

$250? Do they not know all the other games that already exist or will be made in the future that can do similar?

SimpleDad1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

This is for the hardcore people that have 2500 h in the game. They basically play that one game the whole year.
Oh and those same people are mad as hell at this... what a way to reward fans of your game and annihilate newcomers.

got_dam13h ago

Read a comment earlier calling it a "special monetization operation." I had to chuckle at that.
