I dig the vibes and the overall aesthetics. Shame it appears to be yet another run-and-hide horror game.

I agree. Eastern style horror games usually (not always though), have great aesthetics (IKAI, Paper Dolls, Masagoro etc).

Gameplay wise however, could do much better

Love Japanese horror games but I’m mostly done with run away and not fight at all games. It’s not in my personality to only think of flight. I enjoy games where you can fight back. It doesn’t have to be your a bad ass and mow everything down but it can have times where it’s better to fight or maybe sometimes hide too.

Hollow Cocoon (PC) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Thomas Froehlicher: "Hollow Cocoon has potential, and is notable for its visuals, but it lacks enough compelling and suspenseful ideas to succeed as a survival-horror title. The environment isn't terrifying, nor are the undead horrors, and the story fails to stand out even in the midst of some genuinely interesting puzzles. A grotesque monster hounding the player doesn't automatically make for a great horror game, especially when that creature ends up being more irritating than frightening."
