Take-Two CEO Says Red Dead Redemption Port Pricing Is 'Commercially Accurate'

When asked about the controversial $50 price point for Red Dead Redemption's Nintendo Switch and PS4 port, Take-Two's CEO told IGN that they felt it was "commercially accurate."

isarai262d ago

So this is what R* is now? "Commercially Accurate" ? Just a bunch of analyst and data running the show? Fk off with your "Commercially Accurate" port. I'm not buying this garbage

darthv72262d ago

Deep down i think he meant to say "Comically Inaccurate"... haha

4Sh0w262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

"Commercially Accurate"= Yes this is a lazy port but the plan is to milk the greatness of the past R* brand to death & we're hoping there are enough dumb*$$ consumers that won't notice.

VenomUK262d ago

This release is little more than a PS4 compatibility patch.

Flawlessmic262d ago

Rockstar is not rockstar anymore.

The heart and soul of them was both the houser brothers and lazlo two of which are now gone.

StrangeDerp261d ago

@Flawlessmic Let's face reality and accept the facts, because it's irrelevant that Leslie Benzies and Dan Houser left rockstar games, because Leslie Benzies left rockstar games in (2016) and it made no difference to GTA Online updates or GTA Online gameplay and Dan Houser left rockstar games in (2020), and Dan Houser ONLY wrote the GTA Story for GTA Single Player, and Dan Houser wasn't a programmer or gameplay designer lol.

Leslie Benzies (Producer) leaving rockstar games in (2016) and Dan Houser (GTA Single Player Story Writer) leaving rockstar games in (2020) isn't going to affect GTA 6 gameplay or GTA 6 Online Multiplayer, because they aren't programmers and they don't create the gameplay design, the GTA world, GTA Online, etc.

if GTA 6 Single Player Story Mode is worse than GTA 5's, who cares ?, because most people will only be playing GTA 6 Online Multiplayer after they have finished GTA 6 Single Player Story Mode anyway, because GTA Single Player Story Mode / Free Roam can only entertain most people for so long, until it becomes boring and repetitive.

There are still millions of people playing GTA Online to this day, and there is probably a lot more people playing GTA Online than GTA 5 Single Player.

Have you seen the trash games that Leslie Benzies and Dan Houser are working on ?, Leslie Benzies is working on a trash game called "Everywhere", and Dan Houser invested in a blockchain games company called "Revolving Games", Leslie Benzies and Dan Houser have seriously embarrassed themselves lol.

Here's the video trailer for Leslie Benzies boring and uninteresting looking game called "Everywhere", and here's the article link about Dan Houser investing in a blockchain games company called "Revolving Games", this is beyond embarrassing for Leslie Benzies and Dan Houser lol.

As long as sheep keep buying into this garbage , those companies will continue doing what they’re doing , if I own such businesses, I will do the same thing.

Gamers are not United so it’s easy to do such practices.

dumahim261d ago

Yep. He's probably right. So many people are going to want to play it again or for the first time and snatch it up.

neutralgamer1992261d ago

I am buying it for sure because this is the only way to play the game on PlayStation. But I am not paying $50. I will buy it used for under $20

They are blaming us the gamers for calling out a bad HD trilogy of GTA and that’s why they aren’t doing HD remasters anymore

What’s really frustrating is this is easy money for them

Imagine if they did proper HD remasters of GTA trilogy that would have sold 10+ million. RDR proper HD remaster and PC release is another easy 5-8 million and GTA4 would be 5+ million

So in combined because of their laziness they are giving up on 20 million units sold

All eyes are on GTA6 now

Rockstar has gone from being a rock star, to a garage band lol. They've fallen so far, it's sad to see. I mean hell, even GTA V was vastly inferior to GTA IV in so many ways. Just look up GTA IV vs. GTA V comparisons on YouTube. It's actually mind-blowing how much of a downgrade GTA V was.

CrimsonWing69262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

But is there more in GTA V than IV? You mention graphical downgrade, but I’d argue there’s a whole hell of a lot going on in V and that was the compromise. Also, to be fair, GTA V is not an ugly game.

Snookies12262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

I didn't mention anything about a graphical downgrade. Just a downgrade from a game mechanic standpoint. GTA V looked awesome when it came out. I was blown away by the draw distance and the size of the game map. I'm definitely not saying I dislike GTA V. I spent hundreds of hours on it, and enjoyed my time quite a bit!

seanpitt23262d ago

It wasn't the graphical downgrade it was the physics they got downgraded like crazy in 5 compared to 4

DOMination-262d ago

re: the physics downgrade:

Wasn't that intentional? A lot of people complained about the realism in IV and _most_ people preferred the style of the PS2 era games more. So whilst you may be correct, I don't think it can be used as evidence for Rockstar cutting corners

Extermin8or3_262d ago

The thing is gta4 was pretty boring and gtav was way more fun. So that's a subjective opinion however on the matter of Nicole and diming their fans yes that is a shame to see but sadly not too surprising these days

Snookies12262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

You're misinterpreting what I'm saying. You are 100% correct about fun being a subjective opinion. However, I wasn't talking about GTA IV being more fun than GTA V. You can absolutely dislike GTA IV. I actually found it a bit boring as well when I first played it. I'm saying, if you actually look up the videos I mentioned. It clearly shows how many mechanics of gameplay were downgraded or left out of the sequel.

CrimsonIdol262d ago

Those YouTube vids are very cherry picked. For all the little details missing from 4 to 5 there's a load of things in 5 not found in 4. 5 was pretty mind-blowing I remember when it came out on ps360, that they could get all that out of this aging hardware. It felt a lot better to play too.

Tapani262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

The games were always really bad in my book. They are such a surreal mix of trying to be realistic and then at the same time murdering dozens if not hundreds of people. I just didn't like a system where you just get forgotten for what you did just like that, no matter what you did nobody would chase you if you stay a couple of minutes under a bridge where nobody can find you. I know I know it's not supposed to be realistic, but it's the realistic parts that irk me. Sure, some of the tongue in cheek stuff was funny, but I dunno... A slasher movie/game genre makes more sense than the GTA style games.

The only remotely interesting one was San Andreas, but even that just felt like a gangsta simulator which is so far from what I look for in games, or in art in general.

Stuart5756262d ago

GTA6 will be a big factor in all of this, it could be monumentally catastrophic

barom262d ago

You trippin if you think GTA IV is better. It wouldn't surprise me if most people think GTA IV was the absolute worse entry in the series.

Stuart5756261d ago

The movie 'Airheads' is a good visual representation of Rockstar. Buscemi, Sandler and Fraser are the Housers and Lazlow while Michael McKean is the $$ hungry corporate douche. Dan Houser wipes his a** on the contract, walks out and forms Absurd Ventures. All eyes on GTA6, its make or break for R*, can they pull it back or are they 'Airheads'??

StrangeDerp261d ago

There is just so much laziness, ignorance, incompetence and greed from the suits in this business nowadays.

Seraphim262d ago

the unfortunate reality is that simply does not apply strictly to this business, but all businesses today. These gluttonous pigs simply can not satiate their greedy appetite.

Lmao. Considering this is red dead as well which doesn't do nearly as good as gta, they really should've done a well deserved remaster for good reputation.
Or like $20 for this sorry excuse...

Gta online really made them obsessed with greed and messed up in the head.

fan_of_gaming15d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long15d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor15d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6915d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming15d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno15d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming15d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

Rockstar still strying to make GTA plus work
Should be $6 for the rdr game on sale not 6 bucks for a months playtime

I hear ya, 49.99 or whatever the price on that game is, is a bit stiff seeing as it's just a port.

Why would anyone rent this game?

jznrpg29d ago

One of my favorite games from PS3 generation. I have the remaster as there was a buy 2 get 1 free deal a while back but the price they are charging for the port is way too high although not surprising at all.

I still think this release was a big waste of time. I would have been a day 1 purchaser if they had redone the game w RDR2 graphics. I still own my PS3 copy, so don't see the point in picking this up if it's minimally improved.

CobraKai45d ago

I bought the game cheaper than the remaster on 360. There’s no reason in releasing the game at that price with so little improvements if any.

Profchaos45d ago

It's nice to have it as a handheld game I guess if you travel a lot but yes the ps5 release was a joke

kaos8945d ago

It plays at 60 fps on PS5 and a higher res if you value that.

OtterX45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Yea, PS3 graphics at 60fps and 4k doesn't warrant the price. It was severely disappointing considering they already created so many of the assets north of the San Luis River (New Austin) in RDR2 and could have reused a lot of things, or reworked things bc they are the same area at different times in a fairly close history. It's friggin' Rockstar - you know they have the money and resources to have done it.

jznrpg29d ago

I like that I can play the game on current generation console but it would have been nice if they did more to make it look better.

Profchaos45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

They should have released the game in its current state not the state it launched in. Obvious we all wanted this to be a expansion to rdr 2 given that the original map was already remade in the game lots of people though this was just going to be added in later as paid DLC.

Now the game runs at 4k 60 fps on ps5 and can be brought on sale it's actually worth playing.

At launch the game was priced far to high and was a ps360 era game that couldn't run at 60 fps.

I'm in no way a frame rate snob I defended games like tears of the kingdom in the past for being 30 fps experiences but rdr was a joke at launch
