Hitman Developer's Upcoming Fantasy RPG May Be an Xbox Exclusive

IO Interactive's upcoming online fantasy RPG may very well be an Xbox-exclusive, according to internal Microsoft documents.

RpgSama306d ago (Edited 306d ago )

There's literally a news article out right now that says:

"Xbox's Phil Spencer says he wouldn't use Sony's own exclusivity tactics against PlayStation"

Which he said under OATH at the FTC.

Talk about snake oil salesman.

darthv72306d ago (Edited 306d ago )

...find proof that Phil went to IO and paid them to keep the game off PS. Then you can use that article against him.

For all we know, IO came to MS first and offered it to them. You do know that sometimes devs/pubs go to the platform holder to solicit their wares... right? The main reason to solicit is to gain financial funding to complete the project. MS has done that plenty of times and NOT owned the IP so those games do come to other platforms. What Sony has done (also plenty of times) is straight up paid to keep games from releasing on other platforms as part of their agreement for funding said game.

Practically every 3rd party game that MS has money hatted has been made available for other platforms. You can't say the same about the ones Sony has done. Maybe like only 10-20% (Sony) compared to 80-90% (MS)

"For all we know, IO came to MS first and offered it to them. You do know that sometimes devs/pubs go to the platform holder to solicit their wares... right? "

They said the same thing happened to Square and FF XVI. Did not stop all of you guys complaining about it.

"This is not some third party multi-platform game, genius.

This is an Xbox new IP made by a third party developer (second party, if you will)"

Talk about moving goalposts.

So Pragmata and any other new IP from a third party that will be exclusive to PS is going to be ok then?, will be second party, if you will? LOL

Flawlessmic307d ago

So is this also disgusting money hatting? Or is it only Sony that can get branded with that.

I'm sure the usual suspects will ignore this and then keep carrying on about Sony money hatting lol.

Not that I have a problem with timed exclusives or any exclusive for that matter, the way I see it is the console owners looking after the consumers by giving them content that cant be played anywhere else.

4Sh0w306d ago (Edited 306d ago )

It's money hatting but "disgusting" I guess depends on your point of view and for the record I've never branded Sony as being evil for doing it, quite the contrary as there are far, far, far more comments branding Microsoft negatively for doing it, so I think you sort of got your wires crossed there. Anyway the back n forth about it between gamers is useless, both companies will continue doing it, its been part of the gaming business since the beginning.

@4Sh0w

"It's money hatting"

It's NOT money hatting! Project Dragon, Contraband and Kojima´s new IP are ALL Xbox first party IPs made by third party developers in partnership with Xbox Game Studios Publishing!

Obscure

OK, but to me anything outside of building the studio from the ground up is money hatting. I mean because the whole "good relationship" thing is kinda blurry. What constitutes a "relationship" or work with them in the past? Saw Kojima in a bar? Talk with a dev/pub in a elevator, pitched a game, he said yes? -I mean like I said if you didn't build the studio yourself AT SOME POINT you just offered a check so studio A or B would make you an exclusive.

Lightning77307d ago

Project Dragon. It's suppose to be 3rd person 4 player Co-Op RPG. I've heard about this rumor for a few years now.

Sounds interesting.

Good for them. Every platform has their 2nd & 3rd party exclusive.

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies127h ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC10h ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff21839h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix6h ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.

Baldur's Gate 4 Has a Huge Uphill Battle Without Larian

With confirmation that Larian Studios will not develop another Baldur's Gate game, the fourth entry has a major challenge on its hands.

Larian had big shoes to fill themselves. Hopefully another studio can pull off the same miracle, but uphill battle is an understatement at this point. It feels impossible that BG3 even exists and accomplishes what it does.

franwex12h ago

I doubt anyone will attempt a Baldur’s Gate 4 for minimum a decade. It took about 20 years to get a third one for a a reason.

shinoff21839h ago

I'd just copy every single thing larian did obviously with different story and characters. Sometimes innovation isn't needed at that particular time.

RiseNShine1h ago

i remember in an interview that it was Larian asking constantly that they wanted to develop Baldurs Gate 3, there has to be some really ugly business going behind the scenes for them to leave in such a way, no DLC no sequel nothing, either they are getting very low return after the huge success, or some of the business practices they have seen are truly terrible.
