Never got a chance to experience this game. Looking forward to it!

Becuzisaid430d ago

View it through the lens of the late 90s and it's incredible. Otherwise you might be put off by how many times Shana is sent to the kitchen to make meals for the boys. Lol.

Kados430d ago

meh. All essentially free trophies for just playing through the main story. The only decent one is for 30 stardust. Doesn't even have one for beating Faust.

lodossrage430d ago (Edited 430d ago )

Look, I hate to be that guy. But this game is mediocre. I still have my copy on PS1 and beat it.

This game has no side quest, the combat is too dependent on that hitbox, and you can't even hold your dragoon form for more than like 3 turns while boss dragoon enemies can hold their form for the entire fight.

The story while fun, is predicable.

And what sucks is I'm a Playstation guy. The game isn't bad, it's just VERY average at best.

SurgicalMenace430d ago

Man... listen to this guy. Average? Sought after for years after its inception. Introducing a system inspiring PS2 games like Magna Carta. Much like the Power Rangers, Ronin Warriors, or the like in the 90s, we often seen the heroes make their transformations at the tail end of battle. It seems you're trying to subtract from its greatness based on modern practices not used in the era it was heralded in.

lodossrage430d ago (Edited 430d ago )

@SurgicalMenance,

No, I'm subtracting from it's greatness on the standard from the days I played it the moment I beat it all those years ago. There were plenty of better PS1 jrpgs that weren't even Squaresoft made let alone Final Fantasy that dwarf this game. I don't care what game it may or may not have inspired, the game still is average to me. Using a battle formula not common in that time doesn't take way from it being average

I felt the game was average when I played it as a high school student, and I feel that it's STILL average now.

@Becuzisaid

You say you don't get my gripes, but then preface each complaint with you get them to some degree.

And the reason I'm hung up on that Dragoon them hard is because THAT was the MAIN DRAW of the game. That was the big marketing point.

Becuzisaid430d ago

The original PlayStation was overloaded with incredible jrpgs so relatively speaking this one is mediocre. But your 3 complaints I don't get. The side quest thing maybe, because it really only had the stardust quest which was awful! But the additions were great and keeps you engaged the entire game in every battle, and the dragoon thing I get, but at the same time every single boss in a final fantasy game has unlimited mp and you don't, so what's the difference between that?

ManMarmalade427d ago

The dragoon transformations had a setting to make them shorter for battle. There was also a wargod talisman that you obtain later in the game that makes your additions automatic but gives you half of the SP

shinoff2183430d ago

It's nostalgia for sure but there's nothing wrong with that. There's also nothing wrong with it being just a good game. Some of us just miss the old school jrpgs. They were alot better then the ones these days for the most part. These days about every rpg is action or somehow even shooters these days are being categorized as rpgs(imo there wrong)depending who you ask.

lodossrage430d ago (Edited 430d ago )

I agree with that.

As for things being what they are now with jrpgs, that's partially the current customer pools' fault.

What I mean by that is the average gamer these days doesn't care for a deep story where you have to read to get through or turn based battles where you actually have to have a plan. Most of the top selling games take no thought at all. There aren't enough of us that appreciate the older ways of jrpgs in comparison to the current number of low attention span customers.

Nice . I’ll download and play it immediately when possible

Fans Are Begging for a Legend of Dragoon Remake

For some gamers, The Legend of Dragoon is, hands down, the best RPG ever. Isn't it time for a remake or reboot and not just a port?

It never will. The game may have been good, but it was just average at best. The kind of game that is one and done.

DickyD122677d ago

Story was good combat was better than ffvii. Game deserves a REMAKE not a remaster

Cacabunga77d ago

We’ve been asking since ps3

Vx_76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

It was anything but average! The story and characters were highly captivating, the gameplay was enjoyable, and the world was interesting. Fans have been requesting a remake for quite some time. I revisited the game last year and found myself completely immersed in it once again. The PS1 had numerous beautiful classic JRPGs that truly deserve remakes.

FinalFantasyFanatic77d ago

I'm happy with the PS Classics port, but if they did, I'd like a port/remaster of Legend of Legaia as well (please put that on PSN).

FACTUAL evidence77d ago

I was just going to say legend of legaia REALLY needs to get the remake. Also keep the combat the same, and the OST. Legend of legaia a truly a gem. I still have my original ps1 game, mint condition.

FinalFantasyFanatic75d ago

I wish I still had my disc, I really enjoyed that game as a kid, but then the disc disappeared (I'm normally pretty good with my games, so it's strange that it's the only game I've ever lost), I have Legaia 2 still, but it's not as good as the first game, unfortunately. It's surprising the first has never been on PSN when Sony owns the license for the game, they seem content to sit on it and do nothing with it.

Spenok77d ago

We've been begging for one for decades.

Lionsguard77d ago

If any game deserves a remake and to be FINISHED properly is Xenogears.

ManMarmalade77d ago

And Xenosaga. Only had 3 parts but was supposed to have 6.

CrimsonWing6977d ago

Yea but if it does get made please don’t remove the turn-based combat.

If Square Enix can remake FF7, then why not Sony?
Remake these classics, Sony ... not recent games like Until Dawn

darthv7281d ago

Bluepoint would be the perfect studio to tackle this classic.

RaidenBlack81d ago

lets see ... Bluepoint's remakes are great ...but not total reworks like RE2 or FF7
but pretty sure they can come up with a good Remake of Legend of Dragoon

solideagle80d ago

to be fair it's a good game, not a great one. I recently played in on PS5. combat becomes stale after doing the same button skills again and again. I think they will have to overhaul combat like FF VII remake then it will shine. Story was good though!

RaidenBlack80d ago

yea, hence I said Remake not Remaster

porkChop79d ago

Cory Barlog literally said his dream project would be remaking The Legend of Dragoon. If I remember correctly, he's actually pitched it before but Sony refused to greenlight it.

RaidenBlack79d ago (Edited 79d ago )

Damn
I recall Barlog also expressed interest in remaking Silent Hill 1 once ...

XiNatsuDragnel80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

Please please remake this.

jznrpg80d ago

I’d like a remake of this and I want Square to remake Vagrant Story

GoodGuy0980d ago (Edited 80d ago )

Crazy square doesn't do this kind of thing themselves with all their classics. I'd throw lots of money. Thank God we have such great communities as they're always the ones that properly remaster these games.

DrewUniverse79d ago

Porting means rewriting a game's code to run natively on another platform. Many think LoD's release on PS4/5 is a port, but it's actually running on an emulator. Roms are the "game" itself. Both emulators and PC ports use these roms to load the game. The difference? Emulators imitate original hardware, with many of their limitations still in place. It's why some types of modding are difficult or unfeasible. With a native PC port, modding is way easier and the core game runs much more efficiently.

Review: The Legend of Dragoon (PS1) - A Flawed But Charismatic Classic - Push Square

Robert Ramsey: "If you're looking for a PS1 RPG experience that typifies the era, The Legend of Dragoon is a solid shout. A big budget title at the time, its ambition is still hard to fault — but with the benefit of hindsight, it's also easy to see where this Sony-backed release stumbles. The combat system is uniquely satisfying, but it can feel frustratingly stunted. Meanwhile, endearing characters carry an emotional story, but an awkward localisation effort comes close to sabotaging the script. A flawed classic, but a memorable adventure all the same."

I loved about everything about it way back besides the button pressing in battles and inventory limit. Everything else I felt was really good. 7 seems fair

jznrpg421d ago (Edited 421d ago )

I’m much better at the button pressing now then I was a long time ago . I’ve had practice over the years but it seems easier on the pS5 controller . I actually don’t mind it

CrimsonWing69421d ago

I rate this a 9/10. I absolutely think it’s one of the RPGs the PS1 had to offer.

DogJosha421d ago

I agree. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't flawed like the article tried to claim it was. Writers like this feel like they are trying to say what they think people want to hear. I bet they would also give FFVIII a 6/10.

myfathersbastard421d ago

One of my favorite games growing up. Almost beat it now for the 1st time in 23 years lol never managed to finish it as a kid. This will be one of my most satisfying gaming achievements

repsahj421d ago

I am still praying for a proper remake of this game!
