Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition - Review | Gamereactor

Petter Hegevall: "It feels boring to be the grumpy guy here, but it can not be helped. To release something called "Definitive Edition", charge £60 for something this lackluster and buggy, is embarrassing and Rockstar should definitely know better. Instead, a dedicated 100-man team should have been set aside here, which for a number of years should have been allowed to build one game at a time, from scratch - as Capcoms did with Resident Evil 2 Remake or Hangar 13 with Mafia: Definitive Edition. Because there is nothing "Definitive" here, except the fact that I definitely will not carry on playing this."

Knew this was going to be crap. Quick money grab and to think of they sued people over mods that did a hell of a lot better job.

Dandalandan117930d ago

Exactly! Also, they discounted the old versions so customers don't have a choice but to play this crappy version.

PhillyDillyDee930d ago (Edited 930d ago )

*discontinued

And yes. This was the biggest slap in the face. Take-Two is right up there with EA and Activision with its overall scummyness.

Cant wait to pay another $60 just to be able to play RDR2 at 60fps…

Thats a damm shame...seriously I know another company that would be burned at the stake if they did this. The gameplay in these GTA games feel hella outdated to me anyway but with these bugs its a hard no, waste of time for me.

JL2930930d ago

If you give a shit about the games you should already have them. You had 20 years.

Mandingo2020930d ago

I'm glad I have it on my OG Xbox. The original GTA games are way better then the definitive edition.

Dandalandan117930d ago (Edited 930d ago )

It would've been better if they added a classic mode wherein you can play the game with same old assets and textures but with higher resolution plus better framerate. At least players would have a choice.

This is the shameless use of nostalgia and hype against gamers. I'm fed up with being let down by supposed top tier devs lately, what with CDPR and now Rockstar.

Listen up devs: you're only as good as your last game.

senorfartcushion930d ago

Nostalgia is literally classified as an addictive substance, it’s no wonder big publishers are milking everything dry. I hope more people say no, it’s getting beyond the point of annoying.

ZwVw930d ago

Try telling that to all the shills who are defending Rockstar for this travesty, claiming that they aren't at fault because they're not the ones who "developed" the remasters.

How do you let this happen, Rockstar?

CrimsonWing69930d ago

Well, when you realize you can make millions by doing the bare minimum this is what happens.

Moquiao930d ago

Just look at most sports games like madden and fifa. The bare minimum.

EazyC930d ago

They outsourced it to guys who made the mobile GTA games, Grove Street Games.

bloop930d ago

It's still R*'s name on the game though, and they had to approve the release.

4Sh0w930d ago (Edited 930d ago )

Facts, you can outsource the work but not the responsibility.

They either didn't bother to QC the games or they let it "slide" through anyway...either way it shows they don't care and greed was their motive.

giveyerheadawobble930d ago

I was thinking this might be the case. If they are outsourcing their legacy like this, Take-Two must have them over a barrel legally. They also must be busy slaving away at another project.

Netflix’s mobile game download numbers have risen sharply thanks to GTA: The Trilogy

The three remasters were downloaded through Netflix 18 million times in their first month.

Netflix‘s mobile download numbers have reportedly risen drastically thanks to the addition of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to the service. All three remasters were made available to Netflix members on December 14 via the App Store, Google Play, and in the Netflix mobile app.

Players are able to download and play the games as part of their Netflix subscription, with no extra charges. As a result of this high-profile addition to its library, Netflix has seen a sharp increase in monthly game downloads, according to Appmagic data reported via Mobilegamer.biz.

According to the data, Netflix’s monthly game downloads were around 10 million in November 2023, but this shot up to around 28 million in December 2023.

18 million downloads across the GTA trilogy on Netflix is incredible numbers and dwarfs the total number of Starfield downloads. This highlights that whilst Microsoft wants Game Pass to be the 'Netflix of gaming' its reach is currently just as a complementary service to the Xbox games console. Whereas Netflix because it is so ubiquitous has the potential to be the real Netflix of gaming and do what Sony, Microsoft and Google Stadia all have dreamed of doing and reach the casuals who never dreamed of buying a console.

Now you can download games on to your iOS/Android device, for sure Netflix is looking to offer full triple-A games that are streamed via the cloud on their TV app.

They need a get these games available on PC already.

Sweet. I loved Liberty City Stories despite the city being empty. Those main story missions were tough but fun.

Number1TailzFan224d ago

Both Stories games were far better than GTA 3 IMO, VCS being the best and most enjoyable though.
