Although Dark Messiah of Might and Magic was let down in many facets, it also managed to show off one truly exceptional area of its design.
Dark Messiah Enhanced is basically a HD Texture Pack for Arkane's title that aims to overhaul most of its textures.
GE writes: Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is a spin-off of the well-known franchise by the same name, Might & Magic. Though I am not familiar with the main franchise, I have played most of the Heroes of Might & Magic games, and I love them. And then I heard of one of the many spin-offs called Dark Messiah. And unsurprisingly too many, it was a great game that I really enjoyed playing through.
Wow, it's been a LOOOOONG time since I heard anyone mention this game. I didn't care for it too much, thought it was pretty average. Nice bringing up a 9 year old game though, nice blast from the past can probably get it used for 2 bucks.
With a better story, it could have been
I don't think I've ever played an RPG with a better combat system
Quote: "Dark Messiah: Might And Magic is a game that was developed by Arkane Studios using Valve’s Source engine — I believe it was the first non-Valve game to be developed using Source, and as such it excited me intensely, prior to release — which was published by Ubisoft and released in 2006. It wasn’t the greatest game ever, by a long shot. It took a silent protagonist who was apparently the fabled chosen one, added a contrived story filled with predictable plot twists and uninspired characters, and threw in a naked demon lady (seriously) just for the lols. Review scores were not friendly to Dark Messiah and critical reception was lukewarm at best. Very few sites favoured it too much at all. But of every site that reviewed it, there was one thing to which every reviewer agreed: It did first person combat so right. "
Good article! There are a couple of areas in modern game design that have fallen shamefully behind stuff like graphics and production values. First person combat being one of them, these days its just, sneak up behind enemy and press X to kill them. The area I find lacking these days is the general enemy and friendly AI.

Dark Messiah WAS good though ;)
