Given that tech-wise Switch one to one and half gen behind, would say very likely.

The real question is can Pro keep pace with Xbox and PS5 and still be portable.

At this point, unlikely. Releasing a Pro would result in the base model still holding it back if any significant gains in power are achieved. And then when the inevitability of a Switch 2 comes out, the pro would be killed off too soon. Given how the Switch is still dominating sales across the board, it is very unlikely a Switch 2 will come out before 2023-24.

The only way it would work is iterations taking the place of generations for Nintendo. Like you have the base Switch and lite, then the Pro for the high end. Eventually (call it a pro 2) will drop and be a bigger step up a few years. The first pro becomes the new base model, with the Pro 2 would be the new high end model. Rinse and repeat as needed...

Anything short of that will dictate the Switch remains at its current power level till a full generational leap can be achieved.

And yes, due to the Series S the tech does exist for a new Switch to keep pace with the new consoles. It is a matter of price and battery consumption at this point.

If the Switch came out with a Pro model and it was somewhere between a PS4 and a PS4 Pro I'd say that would be more than enough.

If it had a 1440p screen and could do that @ 60fps with upscaling to 4K via a dock that would be an ample upgrade.

Yes. Though the Wii proved that Nintendo doesn't need to be on par with Sony and MS in terms of tech, they still have to offer something that runs 3rd party games decently enough. That's not going to be the current version of the Switch in a coupe of years.

I wouldn’t myself Nintendo home consoles and yes this is (it certainly replaced theirs) have never gone past 4-6 years switch is in 4th year no point in a pro when within 12-18 months it’ll have smashed 100 million sales they will want to move on they always do. Completely move on, doubtful but they will want to try something new likely “New” Switch2.0? 🤷🏻‍♂️😜 next gen for them and just make it BC use same carts or something and jobs a goodun. Think that’s the route they’ll go down myself. Try and get back in line with the other consoles gens. Not that that’ll
Be their main reason behind it but if they can get their next console out 12-18 months 2 years headstart is nothing they can gauge what’s worked and what hasn’t make their own version and switch proved 2-4 year headstarts and they can catch up. So yeah think we’ll get BOTW2 some more pokemon and maybe a Wario ware or Pilotwings wave race etc and then next generation end of 2022 max. 🤓✌🏻

A clue to whether there is a new Switch coming out is the lack of more information from the recent Direct on BotW2 and Metroid 4. It's likely they are doing more work because there is more work needed to get it working on different hardware (base Switch & Switch Pro), and then also to time the release with the new hardware.

A guess but plausible.

Rebel_Scum yeah plausible with Nintendo you never know they could be dual releasing like they did first BOTW and just doing next one on switch 1 and 2? Or whatever they call it but I just think it’s not ready I sure they could have showed something but my guess is due to 35th anniversary of Zelda that will get its own direct very very soon 30/45 minutes pure Zelda BOTW2 Game and watch Zelda few old ones for switch online, Zelda collection and loads of collectibles no doubt. Metroid 4 is obviously proving trickier than first thought as taking them a long time but the one thing with Nintendo 9/10 if it’s not up to scratch it won’t get released they’ve rather take their time. Both Zelda and Metroid big games tho with lots in minute details and yeah they take their time and make them pretty damn epic, hopefully they’ll learn not to announce them so early ie smash bros Zelda Metroid 4 😏😏😑 28514;✌🏻 Nintendo fans can be rabid 😂 and I’m a big fan myself alongside my Ps5 but shiiii 😅🤣 they can’t do right for wrong but they do have a level of excellence most devs would kill for.

I'm holding out for it. I've just bought some games in the last week, just need the new console.

Review: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance (Switch) - Even Better Than The Stellar Original | NL

"Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is a stellar example of an enhanced re-release done right. Its comprehensive approach to improving the story and various gameplay systems of the original release makes for an experience that’s even more engrossing than the already excellent original game. Though we were disappointed by the lack of any performance gains here, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is still an extremely easy recommendation for any RPG fans. Some may consider SMT to be “Persona without the heart,” but SMT V: V cleanly demonstrates that this old Atlus stalwart still has an abundance of fantastic gameplay and unique appeal." - Mitch Vogel / NintendoLife
