60 frames at sub 1080p on a brand New console with a cross gen game. Just scary.

Atom6661303d ago

You can always tell when you're in a Series S thread. It's the only time resolution matters again.

Kyizen1303d ago

Oh but when PS4 was pushing 900p when Xbox was hitting 1080p on multiplats no one talked about that /s

Rude-ro1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

Microsoft has had two gens now with 5 different console variations and only two have gone over 1080p...

Just imagine being that average player that does not dig into gaming news and only believes in Microsoft’s hype and went from the one x to the series s because maybe they do not have a 4K tv or went cheaper to get into the new gen...
And they are getting sub 900p level graphics?
From a company that literally birthed the comparison sites into existence to grab market shares?!

Yeah.. there is fanboy caring, then there is Microsoft.
They lied about it being a 1440p console version of the series x.

Sure... kind of getting ray tracing now but at what cost?
Please...

RazzerRedux1303d ago

@Kyizen

"Oh but when PS4 was pushing 1080p when Xbox was hitting 900p on multiplats no one talked about that /s"

Fixed. And yeah, that was all the talk. The thing is the differences were actually noticeable and now those resolutions are where Xbox Series S seems to live for the most part.

@Atom666

This is not comparable to dynamic 4k levels or the techniques like temporal upscaling that make variations in resolution non-distinct. Even Digital Foundry called out the XSS for Microsoft marketing it as a 1440p console which it seems more and more is simply not accurate. So yeah....resolution matters less and less the higher you go. You know that.

cartoonx11303d ago

@Kyizen - its much cheaper thn ps4/xone were at time of release. its suppose to be a budget option

darthv721303d ago

I get that some are threatened by the S but most everyone else is fine with it. It is a really good little budget system. I know over time it may not be as attractive but for its price and ability to hold its own... it still a beefy burrito.

1302d ago
--Onilink--1302d ago

@Rude-ro

So the “average” player that doesnt have a 4k TV and had to go the cheaper option for next gen still had the $400-500 Xbox One X?....

You would think that if someone was the target audience of a Series S because of budget or TV type, that person wasnt the target audience for a One X either haha.

No reason to suddenly mix up demographics just to try to prove some kind of point.

The biggest issue with Series S isnt resolution, its if games start taking out features from other versions (like RT or certain framerates). Because the whole marketing side of it has always been about doing mostly the same as the other consoles, but at lower res (the push in marketing for 1440p seems sketchy as well tbh)

Atom6661302d ago

@ Zeeb

What's "in my favor?"

I don't own a Series S. I have no plans to own one. I'm just mocking the fanboys who seem to flip scripts every other day.

Why so defensive...hmmm...

Babadook71302d ago (Edited 1302d ago )

It’s not a solid 60 jumpxbox. You get what you pay for.

S2Killinit1302d ago

Hmmm so since PS5 is outperforming series X all over the place, who are we complaining about?

mechethegoat1303d ago

its 300 dollars idk what you expect.

Bruh1302d ago

Considering for a $100 more you can get a next-gen console with slightly more storage and a much beefier GPU set up, $300 isn't exactly value. If it was like $200 then yeah I'd easily see how the shortcomings are ignorable, but really at $300 it isn't value

Melankolis1302d ago

@mechethegoat
It's just what i expected.
But then again i still remember not long ago many people still believe that XSS can run the same setting as XSX albeit in 1080p. They were/are wrong. Not only it can't run the same setting as XSX, it also not capable to run it in 1080p. I told them but they didn't believe me.

AmUnRa1302d ago

But your 500GB SSD wont last long, so you gotta buy A Seagate SSD for $229, so that makes $529....

spicelicka1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

But it's 4k on Series X, or will you just ignore that? Series S is also more than $200 cheaper than Series X/PS5 or will you just ignore that? It's cheaper than a One X and a PS4 Pro and it can still run next gen games...or will you just ignore that?

azedean1303d ago

Not true it is 100 bucks cheaper than the ps5 digital, it is still a ps5 without a disk drive.

spicelicka1303d ago

Yeah and $100 is a big difference. Point is that it's supposed to be a less powerful option and it's priced as such, so what is with the bitching and ignoring facts.

alb18991303d ago

Yep, but can you find a PS5 digital?
Sony is making like 10% of all production because they lose to much on that machine. If isn't available then is not a choice.

mechethegoat1303d ago

I meannnnnn. In mass production 200 is a hell of a lot more. Of course a 399 digital ps5 is a better deal but its sooooooo hard to get one.

Bruh1302d ago

I just wanna know where all the resolution ignorance went from the times of the PS4 Pro and Series X

1302d ago
WeAreLegion1302d ago (Edited 1302d ago )

I mean, a $200 computer can "run" these games, too. But they won't look good. Same with the Series S. I don't understand your comment at all. Anything can run this game, but it's crazy that the Series S even exists. It shouldn't.

Microsoft could release a $150 version of the console that plays games at 240p 60 fps and y'all wouldn't shut up about the "value".

S2Killinit1302d ago

$100 is the price of a game and half.

Popsicle1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

@Kyizen reverse the words PS4 and Xbox and your post will be more accurate. Also it was discussed quite a bit.

@Rude wouldn’t be fair get upset with the 1440p Series S marketing if you are not at least equally upset that the box for both the Series X and PS5 have 8K written on them.

cartoonx11303d ago

PS5/Series X are marketed as native 4k yet none can do that with 60fps locked so iam not sure why you'd upset if series S cant do the marketed res.

Ju1302d ago (Edited 1302d ago )

@cartoonx1 you must be kidding. The big machines hit the 4k more often than the XS hits its 1440p target. 1080p and dropping to 675p to achieve 60fps is a joke when discussing next gen consoles. Especially if a $100 more expensive machine can do exactly that, hit 4k @60fps (what's the $ per frame on that?)

NeoGamer2321303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

If you only have a 1080p TV this would be perfectly fine.

Your comment is like someone buying a Chevrolet Corvette talking about someone who owns a Chevrolet Spark. You are trying to compare the performance of the two as equivalent, whereas all of MS' information on the console states that it has a lower resolution target but everything else is the same. That's what this video shows... A lower resolution target with everything else being equal. This game doesn't hold 4K on the higher end consoles all the time either, so, what is the standard that needs to be hit for it to be considered next gen?

Just because Sony has two different consoles that are the exact same performance, does not mean MS has to have the same strategy. And in fact it is nice to see they aren't just copycatting each other.

NOTE: I won't buy a Series S, but I think casual gamers would be happy to save the $300 and buy it instead of the X.

psychosmurf1011303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

Xbox’s were also not given to developers until after the PS5s were given to devs. The devs had extra time optimizing the Ps5. I expect disparities to be non existent in the future. The Xbox will be on par with PS5 at a minimum. As to performing above PS5? No clue. Time would be the judge of both options. https://www.google.com/amp/...

buffig1303d ago

Who would of thought that for the price of only £250 you could play games at 900p?! Where do I sign up?!

OpenGL1303d ago

The Series S is a terrible value, if it maintained the 1TB SSD it wouldn’t be so bad but the compromises are far too many for $300.

Eidolon1303d ago

They should have done an all-digital like PS5, at $399.

OpenGL1303d ago

Agreed, Microsoft probably profits more from the digital one anyway.

RaidenBlack1303d ago

The new patch has made performance on PS5 worse in the 60fps mode, and still not fixed the screen tearing fully on Xbox Series X.
https://twitter.com/tomwarr...

angelsx1303d ago

they f..k up the ps5 version after the last patch to compare with xbox sx.shame

potatoseal1302d ago

The PS5 performance mode was fine BEFORE THE PATCH....

Now the new patch has destroyed the game. I had to reinstall the disc version again and make sure it NEVER installed the new patch.

It was unplayable

Shiken1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

As someone playing on the Series X, screen tearing is completely gone in visual mode with a solid 30 fps locked at 4K. This mode feels incredibly polished on the X.

Performance mode has seen a massive improvement in frame rate and screen tearing is not anywhere near as bad as it was before. You can still get it to tear under stress, but more in line with what the PS5 was doing. This mode still needs work, but it is an improvement.

I cannot speak for issues about the PS5 however, and I hope that if they are as reported they get fixed soon. I want people to enjoy their games, regardless of their console alliances.

You earned a cookie today.
chocolate chip will be patched in later.

Kurisu1303d ago

How is the combat in this game? The last AC game I played was Origins, but the combat felt really off compared to the two previous AC games that I played (the very first and Syndicate, never tried the others).

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

Combat is excellent Imo. Very smooth and responsive on Series X. Dual welding 2 handed weapons is very satisfying and when you mix in the abilities it adds a lot of combo potential. Play on hard though otherwise you won't get much of a challenge.

potatoseal1302d ago

Ghost Of Tsushima takes a dump all over this game's combat. The combat is bare bones average in Valhalla. If you didn't like Odyssey, then you will HATE Valhalla combat

Modern Games Are Getting Too Long

While there’s a lot to love about modern video games, there is one trend — particularly in the AAA space — that tends to grate: their length.

Games are coming out with too much fluff and side activities that are horribly dull. That's my main issue with all these open world games. Open world should be about exploration, discovery and wonder, not have some stupid 10s or 100s of boring activities spread throughout.

IAMRealHooman85d ago

100% agree
All these ubisoft titles, Farcry, AC, Ghost recon, boast huge maps, but with the same, 3 missions or the same base to clear 100s of times. Hour 1 of any of those titles is the same as hour 100, there big for the sake of being big, with the illusion of player freedom, where we really want depth and player expression.

Ninver85d ago

Give me a solid 15-20 hour engaging single player driven IP any day. Life's too short you dig.

isarai86d ago

I stopped buying overfluffed games like a decade ago. Cant stand games with the Ubisoft mindset of just filling maps with uselss collectibles and fodder. Make it mean something. Ill gladly take 1/4 size of the map and 1/10th the "content" if it all meant more, were more unique and greater affect on your progression.

Abnor_Mal86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Well people complained like the world was ending when a few games were six to ten hours of gameplay. Developers listened and started making longer games full of repetitive gameplay, time wasting fetch quest and other forms of bloat. In doing so they were able to justify the high cost of a game being sold to the customers at seventy dollars or more.

H986d ago

Filler, it's like a 80 episodes show where only the first and last episodes actually matter

Inverno85d ago

It's been a problem with pretty much every modern AAA game all through last gen and this gen. God forbid you point it out tho because all these big games are masterpieces and people lose their minds if you criticize them. Death Stranding is a fetch quest fest, but people will die defending it cause it's a "masterpiece".
