Ghost of Tsushima is now PS4's fastest selling first-party original IP

Ghost of Tsushima is now PS4's fastest selling first-party original IP debut with more than 2.4 million units sold through globally in its first 3 days of sales.

majiebeast1376d ago

Boom here is the next 10M seller for Playstation, and people seriously wonder why they dont put their games day 1 on PSnow.

FATAL1TY1376d ago

Amazing game, well deserved.

RpgSama1376d ago

And the crazy thing is that TLOU2 and GoT came out a month apart, truly incredible results.

sprinterboy1376d ago

Just finished my playthrough, excellent game 86% trophies qst playthrough.
Finally a game with decent characters and side missions

fiveby91376d ago

I am loving the game. Well worth the price paid. What a fine way to send off PS4 exclusive games. Next stop PS5!

ThunderSpark1376d ago

I thought single player games were dead

1376d ago
Livingthedream1376d ago

I don't think anyone wonders that, but if they did, then ps now would be worth the price.

F0XH0UND9221375d ago

You have fun with those barebone GaaS and microtransaction riddled games coming down the Xbox pipeline. I'll take critically acclaimed, AAA exclusives any day of the week.

Livingthedream1374d ago

Lol Ill be buying a PS5 I know what Sony is bringing to the table, well what Naughty dog brings to the table. I sold my PS Pro well after I beat uncharted 4. Last of us two kept getting delayed, so will be picking up the 5 just to get a real LO2 experience.

1376d ago
Saijahn1376d ago

As evidenced by gamepass, putting their games on their service wouldn’t stop sells. And also would put the game in more players hands.

Either way, congrats to Sony

rainslacker1375d ago

What evidence suggests that? MS hasn't released sales numbers for their games in a while. They list user count, and 3rd party companies that track purchases dont give actual numbers, and are regional

Chevalier1375d ago

Interesting. How much did Gears 5, Halo 5, Forza Horizon 3 and Forza 7 sell again? Figured you would be in the know for sales.

Dragonscale1375d ago (Edited 1375d ago )

If it released on ps now immediately they would have lost millions in revenue cos hardly anyone would pay full price. The devs deserve those sales for such a quality game. New games on gamepass is just desperation from ms tbh.

sprinterboy1376d ago

Exactly, I kept subscribing to EA access for battlefield then realised it was just easier buying a copy on the sale off psn store

KwietStorm_BLM1375d ago

Do you think that if these amazing games debuted on a service, that there wouldn't be more people paying for said service? Do you think PlayStation is concerned more about individual game sales if they would be making recurring profits anyway?

neutralgamer19921375d ago

Let me see sell the games at $60 or have hopes people sign up for $10 service and than cancel the next month

Unless there is requirement to sign up for minimum of 6 months at a time. Ms is eating a lot of cost if GP right now

Hakuoro1376d ago

Well deserved, i'm sure it'll have long legs as well.

Zarock1376d ago

Well deserved but not perfect.
Stealth needs to be reworked also changing gear and charms for every encounter is tedious.

Hellcat20201376d ago

Having options is a bad thing?

jimbost791376d ago (Edited 1376d ago )

Yea you're right mate, a loadout tab in the menu to quickly switch between combat, stealth and exploration gear would be brilliant to include in a patch.
It's OK just swapping costumes, but then you want to switch all your charms aswel.
Still early in the game, but I think this is in my top 3 ps4 games.

yoshatabi1376d ago

Literally no one said it was perfect

sprinterboy1376d ago

I never changed my charms, was happy with the ones I chosen and never felt too overwhelmed.
You don't have to keep changing them.

UnSelf1376d ago

Who is constantly switching their charms for battle tho lol?

I play on Hard and hardly ever touch my charms.

TKCMuzzer1376d ago (Edited 1376d ago )

You don't have to change gear all the time if your tactical, a true Samurai only needs one outfit.

Strangeface1376d ago

I love this game but absolutely agree. Not a deal breaker but it would be a great QOL addition.

Strangeface1376d ago

@Hellcat you are correct sir, but the option to change outfits and charms with enhanced expediency would be a great addition, would it not?

Zarock1376d ago (Edited 1376d ago )

@UnSelf You clearly rushed through the campaign like most people here.

If you explore more you could get charms that increase your poison arrows effects that it oneshot poison kills mongols with a single light arrow without aiming for the head.

There are plenty of gear to get depending on your playstyle be it ranged stealth or melee.

And plenty of missions that require you to switch gear to meet that playstyle otherwise it's just mindless hack and slash. It's how the developers intended the players to experience the game.

UnSelf1376d ago (Edited 1376d ago )

@zarock.

I didn’t even fully read your entire comment to avoid spoilers. I have never taken my time playing a game more so than I am with Ghost.

Rushing? I had the game since July 18th and just freed Yuna’s brother from captivity. And I play it for hours every single day.

You sir, is the one who has rushed through it.

isa_scout1375d ago

Stealth is fine, about like Assassins Creed honestly. But why would you change gear and charms for every encounter? I've been playing for 25 hours and dont see were any of the charms make that big a difference except for the two charm slots for gold ones. Get the two charms for regenerating health when outside of combat and the one that doubles the material you pick up and you'll never change your charms again.

KwietStorm_BLM1375d ago

Who the hell is changing gear and charms for every encounter? lol that's just stupid. You're basically forcing a crutch on yourself. You don't HAVE to have +attributes just to play a game or to kill a boss.

AspiringProGenji1375d ago

This is an article about sales, not a game review

VariantAEC1372d ago

I only swap things around when I'm getting my arse handed to me. For duels I use the Samurai armor for archery the Todayori outfit so on and so forth additionally I'll use charms that buff the enhancements those outfits already give me. When I'm done I'll go back to travelers attire and use the charm of Inari and light stuff that helps me explore the island.
Pretty simple.

Sure when XBOX fan gonna "jump in" PS5 ship! 🤫

SamTheGamer1376d ago

Sony's first party studios are challenging themselves every time and that is leading them to success.

Silly Mammo1376d ago

Healthy competition to push the limits of their games between Sony's first party studios is a win for Playstation gamers.

robtion1376d ago

So glad to hear it is selling well because I love it. I am recommending it to everyone I know.

Definitely in my top handful of ps4 games along with Horizon, Days Gone, God of war, Bloodborne, and The Witcher 3.

starchild1375d ago

Good taste. Those are my favorites as well. Ghost of Tsushima is my favorite PS4 exclusive.

janus2251376d ago

They are in other league now! I think they can compete with movie studios

kneon1375d ago

Most movies are mediocre or worse, Sony first party studios have a much better track record that most movie studios.

sampsonon1376d ago

Cheers! To SP.
MS can keep Gamepass. I was right, you get what you pay for.

shabz6661376d ago

Im playing Tsushima since day one. Just reached the Riyuzo fight and I’ll say it, this would have been a great gamepass game 🙄

TheTony3161376d ago

Yeah. The Xbox showcase felt like a big gamepass commercial.

Livingthedream1376d ago

Pretty much what it was, crazy that all those games will be available day one on the service. Or you can always buy them.

Father__Merrin1376d ago

Xbox wants to push gamepass but I hope the gamepass bubble burst soon. Why should publishers gamble on 1 million day one sales to be on gamepass. Also to note where are all those 12TF ppl gone

Sunny_D1376d ago

Agreed. Remember how people say “that looks like a Netflix movie”? Well because most movies Netflix puts out are low quality and low budget. The summer blockbusters are never on there. Gamepass is just like Netflix. Meanwhile Sony is always releasing summer blockbusters.

TKCMuzzer1376d ago (Edited 1376d ago )

People have been going on and on about Gamespass . As good as it is there are a couple of floors that people just don't mention. If your new to Xbox and Gamespass its a bargain but you will soon run out of games you want to play, as I did after only 2 months. Here are the issues though, unlike Netflix in which it only takes 7 or 8 months to create a decent series, a game can take years to create. Gamepass will end up with filler small games in between big releases, thats if there are even big releases from MS anymore.
Then there is the other problem, at some point the big publishers are going to want a bigger piece of the pie than what MS are offering and create their own pass for their own games. This means there will subscriptions all over the place, we've seen it happen with TV, it will follow for games.

Buy it, own it, play it whenever you want.

Note: This would also be the same argument if Sony followed suit as well with PSNow, which they can do but leave the AAA games of it for at least 12 months.

isa_scout1375d ago

This 100%!!! In a year or two every publisher will have their own gamepass type service and MS wont have any quality 3rd party titles to add to their service. And people aren't going to rush to buy a new console or pay a monthly subscription to play the latest buggy mess like State of Decay 3. And to be perfectly clearI'd be just as annoyed if Sony put all their eggs in the subscription basket as well.

Square Enix Declares $140m Loss Amid Game Pipeline Shakeup

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth publisher Square Enix has declared a $140m loss based on a shakeup of its internal development pipeline.

Furesis5h ago

What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.

-Foxtrot3h ago

I hope IX is still on the cards

Just a straight up remake which they expand a little bit nothing over ambitious

If IX dosent happen then VI and VIII will never be thought of.

TiredGamer2h ago

What are they doing? Sales are falling and the costs are out of control. Big releases need to be absolute sales home runs now, and Final Fantasy sales have stagnated.

Now we know why Square didn’t fall over themselves to remake the original FF7 all these years ago. It certainly wasn’t a license to print money, at least not with what the expectations were. Each of these full on remakes drains an enormous amount of company resources for a razor thin profit margin.

TwoPicklesGood1h ago

Breaking the game up into multiple parts was a mistake IMO.

blackblades41m ago

The loses came from cancelling games nothing else.

shadowT4h ago

Do not miss Final Fantasy 16. Great game!

raWfodog3h ago

I'm waiting for them to release the complete edition bundle, but it's definitely on my list.

PhillyDonJawn3h ago

Wth is going on with the gaming industry?

mandf2h ago

Corporate investors taking everything

TiredGamer2h ago

Not rocket science. Compare sales numbers, development cycles, and budgets to the previous gens. We are all collectively burning up the industry from the inside out. Expectations are ludicrously high now for every release and sales are dropping for even the most prestigious of series.

We used to be satisfied paying $50-60 for a game that took 1/100th the budget and staff to make. Now gamers feel cheated if they have to pay the same for a game that took 100x the budget. We may be reaching the end of the line for this model of gaming.

TiredGamer3h ago

The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.

CS73h ago

Sad. Rebirth was one of my favorite games in a long time. Should have sold more.

CrimsonWing691h ago

Oh I’m with you. What’s worse is they can say, “Well we tried to make this amazing game and spend all this money on, but not enough people showed an interest. So no more of these since we can’t take a hit like that.”

The industry is going to take a dramatic shift. Mark my words on this.

rpvenom1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I think there is quite a large portion of individuals like myself who held out on buying it on PS5 because I can get it on PC eventually. To be able to mod the game and also have custom graphical settings to my liking

Here's Everything I Expect From The Witcher 4's Combat

Danish from eXputer: "The Witcher's upcoming sequel needs to overhaul the series' combat system if it wants to make a big splash among gamers."

on_line_forever8h ago

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

shinoff218318h ago

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies1214h ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC17h ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff218317h ago(Edited 17h ago)

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

FinalFantasyFanatic16h ago

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix14h ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

CrimsonWing6917h ago

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.
