Streets of Rage 4 Receives New Trailer

Carl Williams writes, "Streets of Rage (SoR) is a franchise that was utterly forgotten by Sega. Three Sega branded consoles, and one add-on, came and went without a SoR release. Well, not counting re-releases via compilations anyhow. That is a seriously long time for fans of the series to go without new content. It seemed Sega had completely forgotten what brought them to the dance. Even though things are looking up, it seems that Sega is not the ones behind the upcoming Streets of Rage 4."

Love this series, brings back memories of playing this in the arcade. Definitely will.be buying this.

Which one did you like the most from the original trilogy? Everyone loves 2 but I was partial to 3 myself.

Rebel_Scum1514d ago (Edited 1514d ago )

Arcade? You must be thinking of Final Fight. This series was Megadrive/Master System/Game Gear exclusive back in the day.

There was also an arcade version. From Wikipedia:

"An arcade version of Streets of Rage 2 was released onto Sega's Mega Drive based Mega-Play hardware. It uses a regular credit system. In this version, all 1-ups have been replaced by money bags, there is no in-game timer and the difficulty levels are one step above the Mega Drive version. Scoring is kept by number of KOs, instead of damage inflicted."

All I know when I was stationed in Japan back in the day they had it in the arcade... I never played it on a console.....matter of fact I also played it in the US.....but I did own a game gear but never bought this game for it.

Yeah saw the other fellas comment. Very surprising.

Wow why couldn’t we have gotten Max instead of a Mortal Kombat Jax rip off. Music graphic style awful to summit up the game looks pretty lame. The garbage company that sega asked to develop couldn’t even build a game engine from ground up for it. It’s a real shame they didn’t get bomber games to do this especially with them doing the streets of rage remake which tramples this game.

“Summit up?” 🤔

Anyway, idk - try judging it on its merits instead of what you want it to be?

SierraGuy1513d ago

Hate to say it but I agree. Doesn't look like streets of rage at all.

SoR4 is incredible. Its the deepest, most content rich beat-em-up i have ever played. And they seem to still be supporting it.

So many of these games out there, most I never got to play. At the time, I remember Final Fight on the Mega CD which had an extra level or something, but I played the arcade version on CAPCOM Collection on the PS2 years go. Also Final Fight 2 on the Super NES, but it didn't hold up to the first game. Played many games on the C64 such as Renegade, Target Renegade and one of the Double Dragon games, but can't remember which one. But back then, arcade games didn't hold up well on those computers, including the Spectrum and Amstrad CPC464. Playing these games at home, it all kicked off with the Mega Drive and Super NES. For me, it was Streets of Rage and Golden Axe that finally made 2D beat 'em up genre worth playing. Two Crude Dudes also brings back memories and I had the Genesis version. But a lot of 2D beat 'em ups never made it out of the arcades and after playing CAPCOM Fighting Collection and CAPCOM Belt Action of the Switch, hoping there's more of this in the future. Anything 2D fighting was great back then. Alien Storm and ESWAT on the Mega Drive also get a mention.

Love the support they're showing this game! It could easily have been left in its original state and I'd have not complained so this is an amazing bonus!

I still play survival with my brother, super fun.

We cant pass stage 40 though, the damn red enemies are brutal.
