An atmosphere of collaboration is in the DNA of Dreams

"the game contains content from no fewer than 232 different contributors, including sculptures, sounds, paintings, and textures"

Being a featured game got him more than just honor

“I was approached by a European game development company who asked me to join their team,” he said. “I’m excited for the future and where this may take me!”

sirsoliloquy1570d ago

That last part is what I think is craziest about the article! Apparently you can get an actual job from using this game!

I'm gonna have to start making stuff instead of just playing!

I feel bad for buying so many games that i haven't played and obsessed seen tutorials of dreams my heart is saying who cares about the games you buyed and get dreams and creating.

This game will only get better. I'm for recreating socom asap with my own level design twist.. so by the time the multiplayer online is ready i hopefully have the character logistics damage detention and maps are ready to my standards i may take foreversince they are very high to the point i dont think dream enginecan fulfillbut will see. I will see if i can make them happen i have never created anything in dreams jet.

Plus other ideas i got personal and business i wanna create in it.. i juat feel bad for buying those kther games i think i will just sale them or give them away to a family members

You'd be surprised what can get attention that can land you a game in the industry. There is a lot of demand for talent right now, and not enough people even applying to fill all the needed positions. Graphics art in particular is a skill trade, but also requires artistic talent, and the people that do that work are in huge demand across multiple industries. I'm actually surprised they don't make more money than what they do.

Being a designer can be hard to just break into the industry with, because you have to really have something special to get a designer position at most studios, but it has been known to happen.

Engineers are also in demand, but their work isn't quite as readily noticeable outside practical application, and code samples aren't exactly tangible thrilling fare, and you could read hundreds of crap portfolios before hitting that good one.

Mortarmer1570d ago

Does anyone here know how that collaboration stuff works? Can you just go in and grab anything you want from whoever’s made things?

sirsoliloquy1570d ago

From what I understand, when you create something, you can choose to make it "Remixable," which lets other people search for your stuff and use it however they want.

So, you can't use *everything* that other people have created, but there's so many people out there who choose to make their things remixable that there's an entire slew of free content that you can cobble together into a game.

I'm just waiting on someone to make a Smash Brothers clone that uses every single popular character they can get their hands on.

rainslacker1570d ago (Edited 1570d ago )

Basically, the creator can choose to make it free use. From there, it can be used exactly as is, or modified to the new creators liking. Credit will still be given back through the chain. I think you can share forward things you change as well, although I haven't looked into that. Not sure if you can block free use if you create something from a free use asset.

So, if someone made say a Mario game...and Nintendo let it stay up...the next person could make a sequel to that game using the same assets. In thoery, they could remake the game exactly, but I think that would be frowned upon. For things shared in such a way, there is no copyright entitlement when used within the game itself. I believe standard copyright laws exist for that content if used outside the game however, unless it all just belongs to Sony due to the TOS. If the latter is the case, Sony would probably be wise not to exercise their claim, as it would look really bad. Probably some terminology about how they can use that content for marketing purposes. Now I'll stop ranting about things you didn't ask about.

There are rules concerning content on the platform. They're quite extensive, but most seem there to protect Sony from copyright infringement claims.

I called it but I didn't think it'll happen so quick. Well done to all

Abnor_Mal1570d ago (Edited 1570d ago )

Same, I said the same thing about someone getting a job because of Dreams.

FyBy1570d ago

Maybe future PS First party game designers....prices like stage in First party studio would be great.

Rimeskeem1570d ago (Edited 1570d ago )

Coincidentally Dreams is also used to get people their dream jobs.

4kgk761570d ago (Edited 1570d ago )

I hope Sony will start publishing quality original dreams games as full games on PlayStation store in the future.

ssj271570d ago

It's what media molecule hopes but i guess is up to sony. Either way i don't think asking for donation will be a bad idea. Idk if is allowed i hope it's. Sony doesn't even know what they got in their hands here. The data they will be recollecting alone from creations is huge money .

Yes it is and its why I love it

If there was one PC version that should have existed it’s Dreams

I’m super glad they will be going back to something more traditional gaming wise.

Cacabunga39d ago

I’m sure they’ll find something creative to implement like Tearaway on vita. What a gem 💎 that thing was!!!

Abear2139d ago

My dream was DreamsVR and creating landscapes, characters, and sculptures using that amazing toolbox in vr, that would have been something imo.

ocelot0739d ago

I thought It has vr support?

Amplitude39d ago

It did but it came out as an update LONG after the game was essentially dead

P_Bomb39d ago

Dreams PC was the dream. Woulda given the game a much needed boost. Here’s hoping they follow it up well.

phoenixwing39d ago

If sony had any sense they'd be making a pc version pronto

mkis00739d ago

They probably ran into the same problem they did with the potential of last of us factions....the support needed was just too much to consider expanding to more platforms for a smallish studio.

Abnor_Mal39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

I use to say this when the game was first releasing, many kept saying it would not be possible, something about the toolsets.

I said this was one game that needed to be on as many platforms as possible, including PC and Xbox just like how Minecraft is everywhere.

Goodguy0139d ago

Creation tools just don't work on console very well. It's definitely more suited for PC, and it's very odd Sony decided not to port it over. Good MM is working on an actual game instead.

How self sustained can DREAM be when it's basically stuck on PS4? I don't think it's even gotten a PS5 upgrade. Ending support for what is essentially a game making engine is basically death. SONY did DREAMS dirty.
