How many people truly have time for a live service game these days?

Nevermind live service, how about just completing a campaign! Maybe there are just too many games to play not enough time.

Daeloki1569d ago

Me in 2000 would never have believed there would be a day when there are more games than I'd have time to play :'D

ThinkThink1568d ago

Speaking as a Dad with 4 kids, I barely have time to complete a mission let alone a campaign.

FinalFantasyFanatic1568d ago

These days, I only get a change to have a good play through on the weekends.

I know i have to manage my time better now but I always make time to game. Even if its just for 30-40 minutes. And in those short little segments I always turn to some of my favorite quick pick up and play games like Daytona USA, Outrun Online Arcade, Geometry Wars and most recently Nano Stray and Resogun on PS4.

When i have more free time is when I invest in much larger games like Gears 5, God of War and even some online stuff in Sea of Thieves. My kids are older now and they have their own gaming setups but I still have a wife and she still has a honey-do list for me every now and then.

Should immediately see part of the issue, given that live service games are relatively recent.

rainslacker1569d ago

I play games now more in my mid 40's than I did as a teenager. I have a full time job, but a lot of my spare time is playing games. Being an adult doesn't mean that every minute has to be filled with doing things that adults are supposedly supposed to do. The busy lifestyle idea is just a fallacy to sell minivans, and too many people I guess feel they aren't adults if they don't run around frantically doing things. Plenty of people spend time doing nothing. Adults still watch tons of TV. I just choose to play games instead of watch TV.

bujasem_891569d ago

How does gaming in your spare time affect the relationship s you ha around you? I find I alwaysfine ny self wanting, or a little guilty .

rainslacker1568d ago

They don't because I don't allow them. I spend time with family, and play games when they want their own time. My social circle has a lot of gamers in it, so that helps as well. I wouldn't let games become a diversion from more important things.

bujasem_891567d ago

@rainslacker I agree with the sentimen, and appreciate your reply. I guess I personally find it difficult to keep up with my gaming circle's games too time consuming. Regulation I guess.

Lon3wolf1569d ago

Very much this for me too.

FinalFantasyFanatic1568d ago

I don't watch much TV either, but then again, I work an awkward rooster these days, so I tend to crash when I originally planned to be playing games.

rainslacker1568d ago (Edited 1568d ago )

My cousin has been working 80 hour weeks to make bank and set his family up while he's still young. he also works a job you don't just lounge around all day. I can see why with his family of 3 kids and a wife who also works, that he wouldn't have as much spare time to play games. But, most of the time, he is doing family stuff with his immediate family, or his brothers/sisters/parents social functions, or sleeping. his free time away from that is spent socializing, and he lives in a small town, so he knows a lot of people.

But, he's about to have his 4th kid, and he's getting some maternity leave for a few weeks, and he said he was going to finally play RDR2. He doesn't play games much otherwise that I'm aware. I tried to tell him to skip RDR2 and I'd loan him my copy of Spider-Man, because I felt he'd probably not waste his 3 weeks of gaming time if he choose that instead.:)

What I find funny about these kinds of articles is that I have a family friend that will say that people that play too many games are just not adept at life. But, they themselves will spend more hours a week reading than I do playing games. Last time I heard them going on their tirade, I asked them what the difference was between then reading 40 hours a week, and me playing games 20-30 hours a week. It ended with some self-righteous monologue about how reading was somehow more cultured, so not just another way to spend one's free time. Funny thing is, I still read fiction a good 20 hours a week as well.

FinalFantasyFanatic1567d ago

I read books too (a few hours a week is generally my average, but it's more technical books than pleasure), I think TV is probably the worst and least engaging between books/gaming/tv, I just feel that games and books work my brain out more than TV does. It's impressive how much you can actually juggle in life if you have enough motivation to do so.

I also have long weekends (3 days) and short weekends (1 day) and if I go out with friends or to some social thing, than that's most of the day gone. I think if I had a better rooster than went along with my natural sleep patterns I'd find more time for games, I still manage to finish games every now and then, I just have less patience for grindy games compared to my teens.

Anthem Sold A Solid 5 Million Copies In Its Lifetime

The multiplayer action RPG shipped a whopping 2 million copies in its first week alone.

JEECE128d ago

A nice piece of proof-as if anymore was needed-that a game isn't automatically a success if it sells "millions of copies."

RiseNShine128d ago

I don't know if it's still possible, but if it still works, PLAY IT. It's a fantastic RPG on it's own, incredible graphics and story, well worth the Bioware name, i don't know how bad it was on release, but when i played years later it was a great single player RPG well worth playing.

ChasterMies128d ago

This a good example of why you should be hesitant to buy a game at launch.

--Onilink--128d ago

Its has been on sale multiple times for like $2-3… and even when not that aggressively dropped, it is usually in the under $10 category of any sale

BlackCountryBob128d ago

That’s good, but also worth pointing out that after maybe 3 months on sale, this game was selling for about a tenner. Reminds me a bit of Days Gone, good sales overall but only after huge discounts so unlikely to make large profit

What a shitty f***** list! Most of the games on it were great fun. Bullshit list.

chantii_mmohaven471d ago

yep this is truly a b*tthurt list :/

MadLad471d ago

I think the only one I agreed on was Anthem, and even that isn't horrendous.

Knushwood Butt472d ago

Anthem; I'd forgotten that game existed. I remember thinking the trailer was BS though; turns out I was right.

Cueil470d ago

the game wasn't bad though

RavenWolfx471d ago

"Worst big budget games" and immediately lists Genshin Impact, a game that has $4 billion in revenue.

blackblades471d ago

$3 billion and counting along with alot of users. I disagree with that being on the list. This list is just a person opinion without merit

monkey602471d ago

I havent played Genshin Impact and Mafia 3 was alright. The rest though I kind of agree with.
I loved the 1st Kane and Lynch and I could not understand how the 2nd game was as bad as it was.
