Death Stranding Review | The Zombie Chimp

What an interesting couple of days it’s been since the Friday release of Death Stranding. It’s gotten mixed reviews, people are hailing it as the biggest game changer since sliced bread and others are calling it an uninspired mess of a title that fails at the most basic levels.

I'm about 4 hours in so far and really don't know if the game play will hold my interest. The environments are beautiful, but plodding along using ladders and ropes is going to get old quickly.

I think the gameplay is wonderful. I think people were expecting something more familiar because it's Kojima but we got something vastly different so some may feel let down.

Vastly different? Once you unlock the AR and similar weapons it's basically MGS Lite. The mains missions for a few dozen hours is basically ubi-towers, but you're forced to do it rather than go at your own pace.

This game is definitely not "vastly different".

Having read reviews etc i knew it was going to be slow and a lot of just 'walking around', but thought i'd give it a go for the story. I'm not bored yet, but i do wonder if the game play will keep me going.

You must of finally bought it.

Veneno1637d ago

Very well, TK. If it's just like MGS then why is the game so polarizing?

TK-661636d ago

Never said it was "just like MGS", and what I actually said was that its "basically MGS Lite".

The gunplay is very similar MGS, but that removes quite a lot of MGS's gameplay elements and level design. Thus making it a discount version, hence why I called it MGS Lite. If you're gonna try and play a gotcha argument at least make sure you read the comment correctly.

Just got to chapter 5 and Im loving every second of this game. Phenomenal boss fight at chapter 4, and just great dialogue and story. What a GEM.
